Iran: hungerstrike, November 30, 2012


The health of imprisoned humanrightslawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh is in a critical condition. She has been on a hunger strike for more than a month to protest against the violation of her rights as a prisoner and the harrassment of her family.

The physical condition of political prisoner Dr. Asadollah Asadi who started a hungerstrike 10 days ago, is deteriorated.
He was arrested in Tabriz 29 months ago and was now brought to ward 350 of Evinprison.
He was sentenced to five years imprisonment on charges of cooperation with hostile governments and membership in the Popular Muslim Party.

Iran: more November 29, 2012

November 29 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will meet in Vienna for new talks on Iran's nuclear program.
The gathering comes after a recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran could soon start operating many more centrifuges at its underground Fordow facility.

November 28 Iran unveiled the new warship Sina-7 on a naval basis near Bandar Abbas.The Sina-7 is equipped with antiship missiles and is made in Iran.
Also unveiled were two Ghadir submarines, which can fire missiles and torpedoes at the same time.
Iranian statetelevision reported that Navy chief Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that Iran must possess the newest technology to protect its borders.

Prisoner of conscience and senior spokesman for student alumni group Daftar-e Tahkim-e Vahdat Abdollah Momeni is not allowed to receive visits from his wife and children.
After the presidential elections in 2009, where he and the group supported Karroubi, Momeni was sentenced to 11 years and 4 months in prison.Currently he is in ward 350 of Evinprison.
He wrote a letter to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei detailing his torture by interrogators in prison and after writing the letter to Khamenei, Momeni was deprived of family visits and furloug.

Police in Berlin says that Wednesday around 30 people attacked the Iranian embassy with stones and paint. They did not enter the building and the police arrested 10 people.
The reasons for the attack is unknown. Germany's foreign minister expressed regret to his counterpart in Tehran.

The humanrightscommittee of UN has criticised the continuing use of torture in Iran in a resolution. The resolution also expresses concern at restrictions on candidates in the 2012 parliamentary elections and strongly urges the government to ensure free presidential elections in 2013.
The resolution will take a final vote next month.

11 Bahais were in Mashhad convicted to six months in prison.
Their names are: Fataneh Hajipour, Navid Nabili, Ezatallah Ahmadian, Negin Ahmadian, Shazad Khalili, Naghmeh Zabihian, Negar Malekzadeh, Behnaz Hadadzadeh, Horiyeh Mohseni, Arman Mokhtari, shayan Tafzali.

Iranian police accepts partial responsibility for the dead of blogger Sattar Beheshti.
The policechief of Tehran said that it was negligence that he was prescribed sedative drugs by the prison’s health center and he was not allowed to take them and negligence he was kept at an administrative section,  if he had been held at the detention center, monitoring cameras would have recorded the incidents there.

UK based Sunday Times reported that Israeli intelligence satellites showed that Iran Fajr-5 rockets shipped through Sudan to the Gaza Strip.
The report said that Iran began preparing the weapons shipment around the same time Israel and Hamas negotiated a cease-fire late last week.

Iranian cyberpolice arrested Omid Dehdarzadeh last Sunday in Ahwaz.
He was previously arrested and convicted for acting against national security, to six-month suspended jail, 75 lashes for “insulting government officials” and was fined at least 10 million rials for “resisting arrest.”

The Census Organization says that young couples should marry younger to a better structure of the population.
Because people marry at a later age they usually end up making do with only one child. The head of Census Instituut said that there must be solutions to allow women who marry and continue their education to also have the facilities to raise children.
In recent months, the authorities have scrapped all population-control programs and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei apologized to the people for having instructed them in the past to bear fewer children.

The names of the members are: Hojat Kalashi, Ozhen Akbari, Farhad Baghbani, Kasra Alasavand, Hooman Eskandari, Hossein Shahriyari, Alireza Solaimani and Hossein Javid.

The family of  the blogger Sattar Beheshti told International Campaign voor Humanrights in Iran that despite promises to pursue and introduce individuals responsible for the blogger’s death during interrogations, a few days after her son’s burial his mother was taken to a notary office to sign a form, releasing them from responsibility.
They also didn't allow them to wash the body for the funeral.
Authorities said on November 22 that Beheshti's death was due to "shock" , but gave no further information.

European Union urges Iran to stop humanrights violations.  The resolution calls on the Iranian authorities to set free all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, including Sakharov Prize winners Nasrin Sotoudeh and Jafar Panahi.
All the prisoners must have access to legal support and medical care. Iran must accept and facilitate peaceful protests and respect religious freedom.
The European Parliament forces the Iranian authorities to collaborate with the international community and allow the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, to visit the country.

The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), ask action for imprisoned humanrights defendant Nasrin Sotoudeh.
She was finally allowed to receive a visit from her husband and children, in the presence of security officers.She weighs 43 kilos and continues her hunger strike to protest against the pressures inflicted against her children and husband.

In the Guardian is an article about how Iranian activists are punished for speaking out.
In 2010 activist Arash Sadeghi was temporarily released from Evinprison. In a few days security agents raided his home in the middle of the night causing his mother who was alone in the house with a daughter, to suffer a heartattack.She died within a few days.
Sadeghi told Roozonline that his family blamed him for her dead. After this he was imprisoned again and since then he has spent all but one month in jail. For the past 11 months, Sadeghi has been held in solitary confinement without access to a lawyer.

Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani the jailed son of senior political figure Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, told his father during a visit that the security office has no evidence against him.
Website Kaleme published an interview with Fatemeh Heshemi,the daughter of Ayatollah Rafsanjani, the head of the Expediency Council, in which she reported on the situation of her two siblings, Mehdi and Faezeh Hashemi, in Evin Prison.
Faezeh serves a 6-months prisonsentence. Fatemeh Hashemi says that her brother is in isolation since his arrest in September.

Another accident occurred with a bus with students on a fieldtrip to South-Iran,
wounding 14 students.
Officials said that 40 female students were on a field trip that teaches students the history of the eight-year Iran-Iraq War. The annual trip, referred to as the “Rahian-e Noor” , has led to many road accidents, especially in recent months.
In October, one bus overturned, killing 26 students and injuring another 18.

Hossein Falah former secretary of Non-Government Organizations in Qazvin is arrested after being summoned to the office of the ministry of information in Qazvin.
The organization was shut down several years ago by the regime.

The mother of the blogger Sattar Beheshti who died in custody, told Sahamnews that she does not believe statements by the authorities regarding her son’s death and she is convinced he was killed in prison.
The coroners report indicated that Sattar Beheshti died from natural causes and has hinted at heart complications and that he was previously taking heart medication.
According to his mother he was suffering from no illnesses and did not take any medication.

It is reported that oppositionleader Mehdi Karroubi admitted for a few hours to one of the hospital affiliated with Iran’s security apparatus yesterday to undergo tests for his physical well-being.

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that journalist Abolfazl Abedini, who testified regarding signs of torture on the body of Sattar Beheshti, the blogger who died in custody, was transferred from Evinprison to Ahvaz Prison.
Immediately 41 of his cellmates protested in an open letter and stressed that he was the most knowledgeable person with regard to the case of Sattar Beheshti.
Abedini has been returned to Evinprison.
