Iran: spoken

A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry defended the many executions in Iran.
He said that 80% of these are drugsrelated and that if Iran does not fight drugs, European countries will be harmed.

Mehdi Motamedi-Mehr, member of the Freedom Movement of Iran is sentenced to 5 years in prison.Between his second courthearing and the handing of his verdict to his attorney the time was less than an hour.
He was charged with membership in the Freedom Movement of Iran, anti-regime propaganda, assembly and conspiracy to act against national security.
Other convicted members of the group are Emad Bahvar 10 years in prison, Ebrahim Yazdi currently in prison and Farid Taheri and Mehdi Gholizadeh, sentenced to 3 and 6 years in prison.

The Committee of Human Rights Reporters requests in a statement that the verdict against Navid Khanjani and the verdicts and charges against other members of CHRR being cancelled.
They emphasize that everything the committee has done up to now has only been aimed at eliminating the existing discriminations in Iran and defending the human rights of fellow citizens, regardless of their religion or race or political views.

Although the bail was paid by the family, is the temporary detentionorder of the journalisteNazanin Khosravani extended after five months detention.
Authorities from the Prosecutor’s Office promised her family to release her on bail after the court session.

Iran: detained

February 7 10 people have been hanged in Vakilabad prison of Mashhad. Five of them were Afghan citizens.
All executed were convicted of drug trafficking.
Neither the families or the lawyers of those executed were informed prior to the executions.

The Dutch-Iranian pastor Vahik Abrahamian(photo) and his wife Sonia are still detained.He was arrested before in 2009 and temporarily released in April 2010 after having spent 53 days in isolation.
Abrahamian was returned to Iran to work as pastor.
September 19th 2010 was reported on Iranian statetelevision that a group of nine christians were arrested in Hamedan.Four Armenian-christians and five Farsispeaking christians. The Farsi speaking christians were later released.



January 29 were four women released from Evinprison. One woman and three men were released three days earlier from Isfahanprison.
Currently at least 26 christians are jailed, among them Yousef Nadarkhani, who is sentenced to death for apostacy. Arash and Arezoo Kermanjani, are almost four months detained in the prison of Hamedan.

The Dutch parliament accepted a proposal for taking the extended executions in Iran to the United Nations Human Rights Council.In the resolution the Dutch government is called to investigate whether the case can be filed at the International Court of Justice.



Zaniar Moradi is a Kurdish prisoner who is sentenceld to death by hanging in public for moharebeh (enmity with god) and "corruption on earth".
Along with Loghman Moradi he was transferred from Rajaee Shahr Prison in Karaj to an unknown location.
The father of Zaniar Moradi said in an interview with International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that his son is innocent and that the verdict is revenge against him.
December 22nd 2010 Zanyar Moradi and Loghman Moradi , have been sentenced to death by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, Judge Salavati, for membership of the Komalah Party, and “involvement in the murder of the Mariwan Friday Imam’s son” on the night of 5 July 2009.
Both prisoners said that they were forced to accept the murder charge under torture and threats of rape.

HRANA reports that last Sunday Arzhang Davoudi was severely beaten in Rajaei Shahr prison by security agents.
Februari 3rd Davoudi was, for reasons unknown, transferred from the securityward to ward 1 in solitary confinement.
Davoudi was arrested in 2004 after writing of Secular Iranian Manifesto”. He was charged with “Acting against national security”.
Afshin Baymani and Mehdi Zareh, who were transferred to the isolation ward a few days ago, have also not been returned.
On the same day, Mostafa Eskandari was also transferred from the security ward to ward 1 solitary confinement.
The situation for prisoners in Rajai Shahr is beyond deplorable.

The Kurdish student Mohammad Ilkhanizadeh has been arrested when summoned by the IRGC to appear at their headquarters in Bukan. His family was told that he was transferred to another place, probably Tehran.
Another Kurdish student, Hossein Jolani was kidnapped on November 2nd, by plainclothed agents. His whereabouts are unknown.

President Ahmadinejad extended for another year enforcement of the Islamic Penal Code that mandates punishments that include stoning.
In 1982 the Islamic Penal Code was originally ratified by the parliament's Legal and Judicial Commission and passed by the Guardian Council, for an experimental period of five years. Since its revision in 1991, the law's experimental implementation has been repeatedly extended.

The body of Zahra Bahrami was buried by authorities at a location 400 kilometers from Tehran in the city of Semnan, the authorities has informed her daughter.
Netherlands recalled its ambassador to Iran for consultations over the Bahrami case.

According to statistics by the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran 121 people have been executed between 20 December 2010 and 31 January 2011.
Reliable sources say that in Iran more secret executions took place.
In the city of Birjand as many as fifty inmates have been executed in past months.

Studentactivists and facultymembers of Qazvin International University were sentenced to prisonterms.
Farhad Fathi and Heidar Qazvini, secretaries of reformist organizations at the university were sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment and monetary fine as a replacement for lashes. Fathi had also been suspended for 2 semesters and Qazvini had been banned from taking the exams for 3 years.
Saeid Sakakian, Sajjad Aali, members of the central comittee of reformist organizations at the university were sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment and monetary fine as a replacement for lashes and two facultymembers Hassan Raeisian and Farhad Darvishi, were sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment and monetary fine as a replacement for lashes. Sakakian had previously been suspended for 2 semesters.Other students and faculty members who were also tried were ordered to pay a fine.

Iran: trial

Today is the espionagetrial against Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Josh Fattal. Authorities have imposed a ban on observers, including the Swiss Ambassador who represents U.S. interests in Iran.
The three Amerikans were arrested on the border with Iraq in 2009.
End of last year, Sarah Shourd was released for health reasons.

Despite the authorities set a bail for for the release of Nazanin Khosravani, and her family providing for the bail, she had not been released.
Her hearing will take place February 8th.
Since her arrest in December she was kept in isolation.

She was arrested after being summoned to appear at the judiciary of Qom.

Nezam Hassanpour, is not allowed furlough.
He was arrested Ashura 2009 and is sentenced to 6 years in prison which was reduced to 2 years.
His family lives too far away to visit Evinprison and lacks also the finances to visit him.
Hassanpour is in ward 350 and similar to many other Ward 350 prisoners, he is unable to call his family.

Mohammed Reza Sadeghi, a supporter of ayatolla Kazemeini-Boroujerdi, who was arrested December 8, is still in prison.
There is no information on his condition, reports indicate that he has endured torture in the recent days.

The Bahai Nima Haghar is sentenced to 5 years in prison.
After his arrest in February of 2008 and one month of interrogation and solitary confinement he was released on bail.

In an interview with International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, Shirin Ebadi (photo l) said that if according to normal diplomatic protocols, the Dutch Ambassador had been allowed to visit with
Zahra Bahrami (photo r)and if the attorneys selected by the Dutch government had been allowed to review her case, many facts would have become clear for sure.
Ebadi also said thst the execution was carried out even in direct violation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s own laws.

The IHRV said in an article that last month a dark month was in Iran. Statistics show that executions have grown by 300 per cent.

In a report said Freedom House that Iran is more restraint and internationally, freedom has been decreasing for the last five years.

The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs admitted that he could have handled the case of Zahra Bahrami much better.
Yesterday he said in parliament that he, looking back concluded that they could have done more.

The lawyer Khalil Bahramian was sentenced to 18 months in prison today and also banned from practising law for 10 years.
He was charged with propaganda against the regime, insulting the head of the judiciary and activity against national security.

The Bahaicitizens Farhood Aghdasi and Changiz Dargahi from Oroumieh were arrested by securityagents.The reasons are unknown. There is no news about their condition.

The detained students Bahareh Hedayat, Majid Tavakoli and Mehdieh Golroo were summoned to court to face new charges without their lawyers and without the appropriate court procedures.
In December the three issued a joint statement on the occasion of National Student Day in Iran. The judge told them that if they deny the statements and press charges against the websites that published them, all current charges would be dropped.

The newspaper Mashregh reported that January 26th in the Karounprison in Ahwaz a man has been hanged.
The man, Ali Ghorabat aka Saed, was convicted for apostacy for "claiming to have contact with the God and the 12th Shiite Imam".
The spokesman of the Iranian judiciary reported that in the cities of Birjand, Karaj and Tehran several people were hanged.
Reports say these people all were convicted for drugstrafficking.
The exact number nor the identities of those who were executed is reported.

The humanrightsactivists Kaveh Kermanshahi and Navid Khanjani are sentenced to 5 years and 12 years in prison respectively.
Kermanshahi was charged with activity against national security” through membership in Kurdistan Human Rights Organization and “propaganda against the regime” by giving interviews to the media about families of political prisoners and victims.
Khanjani is Bahai and banned from higher education. His sentence of 12 years is the heaviest prison term handed to a human rights activist.

Dutch television yesterday announced that executed Zahra Bahrami in The Netherlands in 2003 also was convicted for smuggling 16kg cocaine.
The Dutch lawyer of Bahrami said on television that he asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make a payment for an Iranian lawyer.
But in November 2010 this request was refused by The Hague.
Iran told the West not to interfere with the executions and they said 80 percent of those hanged are drug smugglers.

The Iranian parliament Tuesday voted over the dismiss of Minister of Roads and Transportation. According to Fars newsagency the parlementarians who voted over the dismissal of Hamid Behbahani by 147 for, 87 against and 9 abstentions. They accused him of failing to improve Iran's poor record in transportation.
