Proposed Iranian defenseminister, Ahmad Vahidi is on a "red notice" list of Interpol.
He is is accused of involvement in the bombing of the Israeli-Argentine Mutual Association (AMIA) building in Buenos Aires, at which attack 85 people died.
Argentine says Vahidi was in charge of Al-Qods, a unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guard who were involved at the attack.
Iran rejects the accusations.

An Iranian member of Principlist says that the list of proposed ministers for the new cabinet of Ahmadinejads is very feeble.
He criticized Ahmadinejad on picking nominees who follow Ahmadinejads attitudes without any question and criticism.
He also commented on the issue of women ministers and said this broad-minded gesture was done under the influence of Rahim- Mashaei.
Esfandyar Rahim- Mashaei became a controversial figure last year over a series of comments about friendship between the Iranian people and the Israelis.
He said the best thing would be not to give a confidence vote to disqualified ministers.

The mother of imprisoned political journalist Hengameh Shahidi, who is also a member of Etemad Melli Party, reported after visiting her daughter about psychological torture of prisoners.
She told that her daughter made not a fully conscious impression.
Her daughter told her that pills that drain one’s cognition and incapacitate one’s thought processes were given every day to prisoners and they come into her cell repeatedly and say, ‘we want to take you to be executed’”.



August 17 have prisoners of quarantine ward 7 of Evinprison started a hungerstrike to protest against existing conditions in Evinprison.

Daily Iran reported that 19 Augustus two men are hanged in the prison of Isfahan.
The men, Mansour (51) and Meysam (24) were convicted for drugstrafficking and murder.

Thursday the first Iranian ocean liner was launched in a ceremony.
The ship, named "Iran-Arak"was built in Hormuzgan, and is 185 meters long, 30 meters wide and 18 meters tall. It weighs over 7000 tons and loads more then 30,000 tons cargo or 2,200 containers.
It is built by Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Company (ISOICO) at the cost of $50 million.
Ahmadinejad said at the launching ceremony that Iran is to ban purchase of foreign ships in order to support the domestic industry.

August 19 is Ayatollah Boroujerdi, after spending almost nine months out of his ten-year imprisonment in exile, unexpectedly transferred from Yazd Central Prison to Evin Prison.
The dissident cleric has been detained for three years already and suffers serious healthproblems.
Since he in May published an open-letter to the UN Secretary General regarding the illegitimacy of the current Iranian regime and demanding international support to hold a free referendum,he is in solitary confinement.
He also went on hungerstrike and was hospitalized numerous times.

Freelance journalist and HRAI public relations officer in Ahvaz, Abolfazl Abedini has been arraignedd yesterday for the third time at District 12 of the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz.
The latest charge is: belonging to an illegal entity, namely, HRAI.
He and his lawyer Mohammad Oliyai Far,pleaded not guilty, maintaining that HRAI is not an illegal group.
This latest charge had already been listed, but is was the first time it was introduced as a separate charge.
This is the third time that Abedini has appeared in a summary hearing at the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court after his initial arrest on July 2nd 2009.
Abedini suffers acute heartproblems and his lawyer asks for his immediate release.

Sohrab Leghaii, a Bahaii citizen of Ghaemshahr in the Mazandaran province, was arrested July 8,and since then there is no information.
He made a short phonecall to his family but did not say anything about his whereabouts or his condition.
In December, intelligence agents raided and searched his house and confiscated some of his CDs and books.
August 18, in Sari, seven security agents arrested mrs.Didar Hashemi, 24, of Bahaifaith and searched her house.
While the search was going on, the agents refused to show a warrant and behaved in a way that a non-Bahai neighbor intervened and decried the agents’ actions as illegal and contrary to religious norms.
Following this the agents went and returned within the hour with a warrant for the neighbor’s house.

During Fridayprayers, hardline cleric Ahmad Jannati, who also heads the Guardian Council, asked for the arrest of the leaders of the post-election unrest.

Manfred Novak, Human Rights Commission Special Rapporteur on Torture of United Nations says that his office has received 300 complaints of people who were detained and subjected to mistreatment in jails after the election in Iran.
He says that most of the complaints by recent detainees in Iran are connected with assaults, electric shocks and psychological and physical pressures aimed at forcing confessions from the detainees for the showtrial by the revolutionary court in Tehran.
He stressed that judicial forces in any country must not refer to “forced confession extracted under torture”.

A member of the majority group in the parliament identified the authority directly responsible for the Kahrizak detention center. The identity is to remain anonymous.
Hossein Fadaei, representative from Tehran and chairman of the Isargaran (devotees) was responsible for the administration of the detention center in the events following the election.
He said that so far, two cases of confrontations in the detention center that were against human dignity have been documented for the parliament’s special committee; in the first case, those charged with unrest were held in a naked state, and in the other case, they were prevented from using bathroom facilities.
Other investigations are ongoing.
Kahrizak detention center was established a number of years ago under the pretext of holding hooligans and thugs, and in direct violation of the law it was under the supervision of security forces, rather than the supervision of the prison system.
It was turned into a holding place for street protestors.
During a visit by a group of parliament members to Evin Prison and the women’s unit it was asked ‘Who was in Kahrizakprison. A MP who remained anonymous told that a woman told that her in Kahrizak, while she was completely nude, was asked to enter a vat filled with water, then was repeatedly given electric shocks.
The woman then asked the other representatives ‘whether they truly consider themselves Representatives of the Islamic Parliament?’”.

International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that the life of Shapour Kazemi, 62,brother of Zahra Rahnevard and brother-in-law of Mir Hossein Mousavi is in danger.
Kazemi is detained since shortly after June 12 .He has been held without charge or access to legal counsel.His familymembers think he is detained on political grounds although he has no political background.
Websites close to the government have made several allegations, including Kazemi being personally engaged in rioting and setting “seven motorcycles on fire",and that he confessed to such acts.
He is suffering from heartcomplications and high bloodpressure.
The Campaign urges his immediate release.

Iran: announced

The execution of Behnoud Shojaee, 21, who was scheduled this morning is postponed.
Shojaee is sentenced to death for a murder he committed when he was 16-year-old.
Yesterday, lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei received a notice that Shojaee this morning should be executed, he has been transferred to solitary confinement as a routine 24 hours before the execution.
This morning newspaper Etemad reported(fa) that the execution was postponed.
In 2008 the execution was postponed 4 times, in May, June, July and December.
The execution of 6 others is according to ILNA also postponed. It was not clear whether the executions would go ahead at a later date.

Shaker Baghi is sentenced to death for endangering national security and membership in Kurdish organizations. He is transferred from Sanandaj prison to Kashmar prison.
Baghi, who is political prisoner from Turkey was arrested in 2007 and interrogated and foltered in cells of the Intelligence Ministry.
After 2 years he finally was allowed supervised visitation with his family.
Initially he was sentenced to 30 years in exile to Kashmar's prison by the court in Sanandaj, but, while he had no legal representation, the appeals court of Kurdistan changed his sentence to death this past April.

The killing of merchants in bordertowns continues.
Last week in Surin-Saghez Kurdish citizen Ahmad Ghaderi was shot and that same day in region Balehsur-Salmas, Khaled was shot and injured.
Day before yesterday around Hamzeh-Abad in the region of Biranshahr,the armed forces opened fire on a number of cars under the guise of narcotics suspicion, and Mameh Khaledi from Mahabad was killed and several others wounded.

Televised confessions in Iran of high-profile reformists who confessed to more or less the same crimes, phrased in very similar ways, did people create a website called "Watch me Confess" inviting anyone and everyone to submit their own videotaped confession.

The trial against seven members of the banned Baha’i faith who are detained for more then a year, is August 17th postponed.
ISNA news agency said that the trial was postponed at the request of the defense lawyers.
Sunday, Hadi Esma’ilzadeh one of the defenselawyers, told Reuters that a trial on Tuesday would not have been legal, as not enough time had passed between the announcement of the trial and its start.

Hamid Hossein Bayg iraqhi 22 has been killed June 20 by plainclothed agents when he was on his way to home.
The family was unaware of his whereabouts, finally the police told them he was dead and they get his body after paying $13.000.
After some followups by the family they got the body for $6000 and he is buried on Behsh Zahra cemetary.

Amir Mohsen Mohammadi, student journalism on Meybod University in Yazd, and human rights activist ,who was arrested June 14 by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence is released yesterday.
He is to be charged with “inciting to riot”.
He was under heavy psychical pressure and was also beaten and was detained in Isfahan’s Dastger Prison.He was released after paying bail of $150.000.

Reformist newspaper Etemad-e-Melli(National Trust), which together with the party website is owned by Mehdi Karroubi, was closed down late on Sunday on the orders of Mortazavi's office.
The prosecutor Mortazavi denied to Mehrnews that the newspaper is banned.
Technical printing problems were the reasons for not distributing the paper.
Today the newspaper was not published.
Karoubi angered many hardliners when he said that some detained protesters, both men and women, had been raped.

French citizen Clotilde Reiss is released against bail.
She stays in the French embassy in Tehran pending a verdict.
A French embassy employee, Nazak Afshar, who faces the same charges, was conditionally released earlier this week by Iran and will also stay at the embassy ahead of the verdict.

A group of Iranian clerics has issued an anonymous letter calling Iran’s supreme leader a dictator and demanding his removal.
The letter was published on opposition Web sites and by the withholding of their signatures,it is difficult to prove authenticity. Still,two Iranian experts vouched for its authenticity. The letter follows unusual verbal attacks on Khamenei.
In their letter they accused him of turning the Revolutionary Guards into “his own private guard, and the media into an instrument to defend and propagate him".
A cleric and former MP who spoke on condition of anonymity said they number several dozen, and are mostly midranking figures from Qum, Isfahan and Mashhad.

Tehran Times writes that Wednesday in Zahedan 4 members of the Jundullah were arrested.
The ministry of Information says that the group planned to carry out a series of attacks in Sunni and Shia neighborhoods of the province.

Amnesty International published a statement urging Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to act and institute an immediate, independent inquiry to the torture and abuse in prisons of Iran.
Although reports emerging from Iran allege that both men and women detainees have been raped and tortured in prisons in Iran and Ali Khamenei himself ordered the closure of Kahrizakprison ,said the speaker of parliament that an investigation had found no evidence.

Fars newsagency said more than 20 people were being tried, but no prominent moderate politicians were among those.
