Iran: further August 18, 2012

Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) reports that five ethnic Arabic prisoners in Kharoun prison in Ahwaz are sentenced to death.
Hashem Shabaninejad (poet, blogger and teacher in Arabic literature ), Hadi Rashedi (chemistryteacher), Mohammad Ali Amourinejad (blogger), Seyyed Jaber Alboshokeh and his brother Seyyed Mokhtar Alboshokeh.
They were all convicted for moharebeh and waiting for their appeal trial.
August 5 they were transferred by security agents from Karounprison in Ahwaz to a detention center runned by the Ministry of Information.
After 10 days they were brought back and it became clear that they had been severely tortured with result that their physical and mental conditions have deteriorated. Hadi Rashedi has a broken pelvis and Hashem Shabaninejad is in a coma. Shabaninejad's condition is critical.

Sayeed Hassan Taheri, son of Ayatollah Sayeed Jalal Taheri Esfahani, former Imam Jama of Isfahan, has been sentenced to 4 year in prison and a 10 year exile from his city Zabol.
He has been sentenced for anti-regime propaganda, disturbing public order and insulting the leader.

Thursday told the security police to the prayerleaders of the sunni prayercentra in Tehran that they had no rights to hold their Eid-prayers to mark the end of ramadan. After protests and discussions the security forces said that these orders were from high officials and that they could not accept the reasons.

Iran: eid-al-fitre August 17, 2012



Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who had been sentenced to death will now be charged in a new trial for banditism and extortion.
Before he was charged with apostacy and converting to christianity and sentenced to death.

Several media report that 14 prisoners from Evinprison were flogged. Most of them were imprisoned after the elections of 2009.

Reporters Without Borders is relieved to learn that a number of political prisoners, among them 7 journalists and netizens have been released from prison.
Yet they were treated like criminals and deprived of their freedom, some of them for more than two years, for covering government repression and corruption. They demand the immediate and unconditional release of all the other journalists and netizens who have been jailed unjustly.

The lawyer of Houtan Kian says that his client has been tortured and transferred to the ward for methadone addicts.
Kian was arrested in October 2010 and has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

On August 8 Kurdish illegal trader Saleh Baduzadeh,25 from Shivan village in Salmas, has been killed by border guards. Iranian borderguards shoot at illegal traders without warning and it lefts hundreds deaths and their animals in the year.

Several "personalities" from Iranian society wrote a letter to ayatollah Khamenei that apparently suggests moves that could dilute the powers of President Ahmadinejad.

American secretary of defense said that Iran is working in Syria with a pro-Assad militia in Syria. He said there is proof that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is in Syria forming a new militia.

OAugust 11 the workers of Mazandaran Textile demonstrated at the offices of Ghaemshahr governor.They are owed 26 months of back payment.
Mazandaran Textile comprises of Talar Textiles, Tabarestan Textiles, Fine Nice Sacks and Tajan Textiles.
The deathtoll at the explosion of A6gust 3 at the Bandar Imam petrochemical complex has risen to 6.
Because of the earthquakes in Tabriz many factories did close down.
On August 13 600 workers from Metal Work Industries closed the Fath Freeway direction Tehran. The workers were demanding eight months of back pays and 11 months of unemployment insurance payments.

The earthquakes from Saturday caused a damage of over $650 million.
The deputy-governor of East-Azerbaijan says that there is a possibility that the costs will increase,

India has joined Japan in offering government-backed insurance for oiltankers transporting Iranian oil to avoid EU sanctions.
These sanctions nearly halved Iranian oil exports.

Iran: still shaken, August 13, 2012

The earthquakes on Saturday had a bigger deathtoll then the original count of 250.
The latest death toll stood at 306, with more than 3,000 injured.
The Iranian Red Crescent said it has given emergency shelter to thousands of people so far and is sending in more supplies.
Statetelevision reported that 44.000 food packages and thousands of blankets were being handed out.
It is also reported that hospitals in the region are overcrowded.

Iran: earthquake, August 12, 2012

Two earthquakes in Azerbaijan province, measuring 6.4 and 6.3 magn. on Richter scale Saturday cost the lives of more then 250 people. .
Another 1800 people got wounded. The earthquakes occurred near the city of Tabriz, in the villages Varzaghan, Ahar and Khajeh.According to Fars Newsagency more then 110 villages were damaged, 4 of them were fully destroyed.

Iran: protest August 11, 2012


Research by International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran revealed that currently 28 Kurdish political and security prisoners are sentenced to death in the prisons of Sanandaj, Orumiyeh, Semnan, Rajaee Shahr, and Saghez.
Seventeen of these individuals have received finalized death sentences and 11 have been sentenced to death at their trials in lower courts, and are now awaiting appeals.
The names those sentenced to death are:
1) Habibollah Latifi, 2) Rashid Akhkandi, 3) Mostafa Salimi, 4), Shirkoo Moarefi, 5) Habibollah Golparipour, 6) Zanyar Moradi, and 7) Loghman Moradi.
10 other individuals are also sentenced to death in one case on charges of “membership in a Salafist religious group”. All have been sentenced to death and their sentences have been upheld.
The names of the 11 individuals who have been sentenced to death and are awaiting the appeals court decision are:
1) Samkoo Khorshidi, 2) Sirvan Nazhavi, 3) Ebrahim Isapur, 4) Razgar (Habib) Afshari, 5) Ali Afshari, 6) Houshang Rezaei, 7) Reza Esmaeeli, 8) Behrouz Alkhani, 9) Seyed Sami Hosseini, 10) Seyed Jamal Mohammadi, and 11) Bakhtiar Memari.
Familymembers of Fakhreddin Faraji, Changiz Ghadamkheir, and Shouresh Rezaei, who were arrested at armed clashes have been informed that they be charged with “moharebeh” and will be sentenced to death.

Unionactivist and member of Council for the Establishment of Labor Unions, Shahrokh Zamani,47 who is imprisoned in Tabriz and is sentenced to 11 years in prison, had been transferred for unknown reasons to the unit with dangerous criminals.

August 6th protested more then 40 employees of Larestan Communication Company at the governor’s offices. The workers were protesting changes in their contracts from full time to part time.
August 3 more then 500 preschoolteachers and temporary instructors at vocational and technical colleges protested at parliament. The instructors were protesting their expulsion from the ministry of education while the main demand of the preschool teachers was to become employees of the ministry of education. The protesting instructors and preschool teachers have ten years of teaching experience.

The head of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology said on a conference at Amir Kabiruniversity that the WWW is unthrustworthy and in the hands of one or two nations.
He also said that the country's government ministries and state bodies will go offline this September as part of an effort to protect national intelligence.

Human Rights Activists reported Tuesday that security forces in Khuzestan province 19 Iranian Arabs from the sunni minority had arrested. According to the organization it is common practice for the security forces to round up citizens with Sunni Arab backgrounds ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

Media Wednesday reported that the 48 Iranian hostages in Syria all travelled to Damascus with the help of a travel agency owned by the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps.Contrary to Tehran’s claims that they are simply pilgrims, they have strong ties to the Guards.
They travelled in six buses from Tehran to Damascus when the last bus in the convoy was stopped at a checkpoint set up by the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

According to American Center for Law and Justice are beside Iranian pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, two more pastors persecuted for their religious beliefs.
Pastors Farshid Fathi and Behnam Irani are in prison. Fathi is in Evinprison serving a 6 year prisonsentence. He was arrested in December 2010 and is convicted for acting against national security and possession of religious propaganda, including bibles.
Pastor Behnam Irani, 41 is in Ghezal Hezar prison. Officially he is not charged with apostacy but with Christian activities” that amounted to "actions against the regime" .

Reported is that blogger Mohammad Hassan Roozitaleb is sentenced to four months in prison for insulting the Larijani brothers, heads of the legislative and judicial authorities.
He referred to them as the Brothers Dictatorship.

IRNA reported that president Ahmadinejad in a meeting with the speaker of Pakistan Senate said that the borders regions between Iran and Pakistan should be the most active ones in terms of trade and commercial transactions.
