Last Monday, Karoun prison officials deprived the meeting of Mohammad Ali Amoori, 1978 who is sentenced to death, with his lawyer. It is reported that Dr. Ehsan Mo’azedi was refused to visit his client in prison.

On January 17, 2013 humanrightslawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was granted a 3-day prisonleave from Evinprison.
Her mother died recently and under Iranian law a prisoner has the legal right to demand a 3-day furlough when a family member dies.

January 17th is member of the Daftar-e Tahkim-e Vehdat (Office for Strengthening Unity), student and women’s rights activist Bahareh Hedayat temporarily released against a bail of 700 million toman from Evinprison. The release is on the condition of refusing to grant any interviews, refraining from being present at political gatherings or taking part in any political activities.
If she holds to these conditions, her furlough for medical attention would be extended.

The Association of Iranian Car Manufacturers has warned the Environment Organization that using gasoline that is 35 percent methanol can be harming people and can also cause car fires.
The Iranian Oil Ministry announced a plan to produce gasoline that is 35 percent methanol.
Because of the economical sanctions the Oil Ministry has charged its petrochemical complexes with producing gasoline. Iran’s oil refineries only produce about 50 percent of the needed gasoline.

Iran: further January 17, 2013

In Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj were on January 16 2013, two prisoners hanged.
Kianoosh Naderi, (1991) was sentenced to death for the murder of an elderly woman in 2008, when he was a minor. Iran Human Rights (IHR) has this case under investigation.
The other man was not named, but was sentenced to death for murder in 2007.
According to state newsagency Aftab were on January 16 2013 2 men hanged in Khorasan province. One man was hanged in public in the city of Sabzevar, the other man was hanged in the prison of Mashhad. Both men were convicted for rape.
The judiciary in Semnan said that on January 16 2013 M. Sh, convicted for trafficking 6,732 grams of crack, and M. F, convicted for trafficking 1,739 grams of crack and 30,80 grams "shishe", were  hanged.
Reliable sources told that today in the city of Pakdasht 3 men will be hanged in public.

Iranian state television broadcasted on Wednesday a program, called "The hunter trapped," showed a long-haired man of European appearance in his thirties identified as Matti Valok who confessed working for the CIA.
He said that he was arrested in August and accused  of contacting Iranian scientists to seek information on "the country's scientific progress," using a Slovakia-based international recruitment agency that he had created.
The channel also showed footage of other accused spies.
The American Stefan Raymond, born in 1967, and Marc Antony Vandiar, born in South Africa in 1958, worked "for the CIA and tried to garner information on Iranian biotechnology.
A Moroccan Faisal, specialist in information technology," and a Malaysian Christian called Douglas Fernandez, alias Ali Abderani also tried to acquire information on Iran's "scientific, nuclear and military progress.

Iran: verdict January 16, 2013

The verdicts against the on 23 August 2012 arrested voluntary earthquake aidworkers in West-Azerbaijan were issued by the revolutionary court in Tabriz.

Behrooz Alavi, 2 years and 3 months imprisonment,
Hamid Reza Mosibian, 2 years and 6 months imprisonment,
Vahed Kholosi, 2 years imprisonment,
Bahram Shojaei, 2 years imprisonment.
Farid Rohani, Sayd Hassan Ronaghi Maleki, Shayan Vahdati, Masoud Vafabakhsh, Hooman Taheri, Sepeh Saheban, Daniel Hasani, Ali Mohamadi, Morteza Esmaeilpour, Mohamad Arjomandirad, Mohamad Esmaeil Solaimanpour, Mohamad Amin Salehi, Mohsen Sameei, Milad Panahipour and Amir Ronasi have each been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment.
According to the verdicts issued all were found guilty of participation in assembly and collusion with intent to act against the national security.

On January 13 Shahin Negari, a professor at Baha’i virtual university in Tehran has been arrested in his house by security agents to serve his sentence of 4 years in prison.

The supreme court confirmed the execution order of Kurdish political prisoner Reza Mollazadeh, 25 from Salmas. This means that he can be executed any day.

Since 3 months there is no news about Ramin Shahriary,, a bahai from Islamshahr.
He was summoned to the office of the ministry of information in Islamshahr and since he only contacted his family once per telephone.
In this telephonecall he said that he was detained in Ward 209 of Evinprison.

January 13 is student at private university of Tabriz Amir Chamani arrested by agents of the ministry of information. .
He was arrested earlier in July 2009 and sentenced to 6 months in prison on accusation of insult of the leader and the founder of the Islamic Republic. In a separate case he was sentenced to 100 days in prison for propaganda against the regime.
He seems to be arrestee to serve his prisonsentence and is brought to the prison of Tabriz. His family has received no information yet.

A passenger of Qatar Airways told International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that he and other passengers on December 12, 2012 on the airport of Doha were discriminated. They had to spend 15 to 20 hours on the airport.The passengers had received 24-hour temporary visas (STPC) and had made hotel reservations through travel agencies or directly through Qatar Airways offices in Tehran,
Upon arrival into Doha Airport, airport authorities refused to allow the group of Iranian passengers to be transferred to hotels. The reason for the refusal was cited as a new directive by Qatar’s Immigration Office, which stipulates that Iranian passengers must re-apply for permission in order to be transferred to hotels.After waiting for hours, the passengers were transferred back to the transit area.
This problem has stemmed from political issues, and according to the airline staff, it is a new requirement for Iranian, Syrian, an Jordanian passengers only since early December 2012.
The eyewitness reported that between a period from 8 and 24 hours, only Iranian and Syrian passengers faced this clear discrimination.

According to the researchcentre of the Iranian ministry of youth, high divorce rate among young couples in the country is due to moral corruption, mental disorder, unemployment, and alimony payments.
According to the head of the researchinstitute the rate of divorces is highest in the provinces Tehran, Khorasan and Fars.

The granddaughter from ayatollah Khomeini, Zahra Eshraghi, Iran is on the edge of the precipice. Eshraghi, who is married to Mohammad Reza Khatami, the brother of former reformist President Mohammad Khatami, gave an interview to the Iranian website Anarpress.

Iran: more January 14th, 2013

Iranian physician and blogger Mehdi Khazali has begun his sixth hungerstrike. Kaleme website reports that the hungerstrike started on January 11th and that he has been transferred to solitary confinement by Evin authorities.
Previous hungerstrikes were halted when prison authorities promised to meet his demands.a lack of commitment to those promises and the illegal treatment of prisoners by the interrogators and judiciary officials led to another hunger strike.
He has been critical of the government in his blogs, and that has earned him 14 years in jail. He is also sentenced to 90 lashes.

Farshid Dadvar a Baha’i from Zahedan was arrested on December 2012.

An Iranian senior reformist said that the Reformist Congress that was scheduled for later this month will not take place.
Rasoul Montajebnia, member of National Trust Party, told Bahai Newswebsite that last week a number of organizers in the Coordination Council of the Reformists were invited to a meeting with a number of government officials.
In this meeting they were told of three conditions to hold the congress.
All participants in the congress would have to declare that they were not involved in the 2009 election protests and that they did not support the two reformist candidates in the 2009 election who are now under house arrest. The third condition was reported to be that members of outlawed parties cannot be part of the congress.
Two top reformist parties, the Islamic Iran Participation Front and Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution, were banned after the election protests.

Kurdpa newsagency reported that the body of the student and member of the Green Movement Keramatollah “Keramat” Zareian, 27, was found in the bathtub of an appartment in Tehran.
In 2009 he was arrested bij intelligence agents and in 2010 he was released in the city of Jahrom.
In August 2012 he was summoned again by the ministry of information and interrogated and told to leave Iran.
According to his sister he was tortured. On November 16 2012 security agents contacted the family and told them their son had an “accident” which had resulted in his death.

Mehrnews reported that Iranian police statistics reveal that each day there are 652 new drugsrelated cases and that each hour 30 people are arrested.
In the first nine months of the current Iranian calendaryear were 1,286 kg of drugs confiscated and 53 kg of drugs are being discovered every hour. Also were 200,000 people arrested and 1700 drugsgangs discovered and dismantled.
Eighty percent of drug crimes were committed in the provinces of Hormozgan and Sistan-Baluchistan, there is also a 5% increase . 1,8 million people are addicted to drugs, 3.9% are women.

Hossein Ghazian, a sociologist and researcher of Iranian politics, gender, and culture, writes a series of articles for International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran interviewed Abdol-Karim Lahidji, a humanrightslawyer based in France, who, among other things said that the experience of the past three decades proves that increasing punishment levels have not led to a decrease in crime rates nor to the establishment of security in the society.

One year ago, American-Iranian Amir Hekmati was sentenced to death in Iran, on charges of being a spy for the CIA. This is denied by both his family as the State Department. .
In March last year, a new trial was ordered, but since then, there has been little to no movement on a new trial.

Iran: more January 11, 2013

The son of ayatolla Rafsanjani, Mehdi Hashemi has been indicted on 12 charges.
In an announcement by the Tehran Prosecutor, posted on the Tehran Revolutionary Court website, it said that a 125-page indictment consisting of 12 charges has been issued for Mehdi Hashemi.
There were no further details given, but some have suggested they are “corruption and security” charges.
Hashemi was arrested in September and was released after 3 months in jail.

Analysts in US and Iran and political figures inside Iran have complained the government has spent needed cash on goods less pressing than medicine.
Last month Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi, the only woman in the Cabinet and minister of health was sacked complaining publicly that foreign currency reserves were being spent on luxury items rather than on medicine.

Australia has announced an expansion of the sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.
The Australian minister of foreign affairs said that the new sanctions target Iran’s financial, trade, energy, and transport sectors.

Iran: arrests and releases January 9 2013

Kaleme wrote that Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that the member of Iranian reformist party Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution, Mehdi Tahaghoghi had been arrested to serve his prisonsentence of one year in exile in Khorasan.

Family of Robert Levinson who disappeared in 2007 in Iran published photo's where he was dressed in an orange jumpsuit like a Guantánamo Bay prisoner.
The photo's are made in 2011, just months after the family also received a video that was emailed anonymously.
Levinson(64) is a retired FBI-agent and worked as a private detective. He disappeared on Kish-island where he investigated sigarette smuggling.

48 Iranians held hostage by rebel fighters in Syria since August have been freed said Iranian state-tv.
The report said that they were released in exchange for prisoners held by the Syrian authorities.
Shortly after they were seized, the Free Syrian Army's al-Bara Brigade said it had evidence showing that the Iranians belonged to the Revolutionary Guards and had come to Syria to "serve the regime". Iran said that a number were retired members of the armed forces, but insisted they were pilgrims who had visited a Shia shrine in the south-east of Damascus.

In the prison of Khomarabad were 2 men hanged.
According to the report on the official site of the police, the prisoners who were not identified by name, were convicted of possession and trafficking of drugs.

Kurdish prisoners Zanyar and Loghman Moradi, who are sentenced to death and detained in Rajaei Shahr prison, received a form with questions from the Prosecutor’s office. One of the questions in the form read, “What is the reason your death sentence has not yet been implemented?”. They may be in imminent danger of execution.

Free Union of Iranian Workers reported that workers of Safa Rolling Pipe factory in the city of Saveh resumed their strike over six months back wages.
On December 29, 1200 workers ended their fourhour-strike following management’s promise to pay one month of their back wages.
Following, no payment was made and after actions and more broken promises , Rostami Safa, the owner, in a 2.5 hour meeting with the workers’ representatives, made promises of paying August and September wages and October and November wages in February with December and January wages to be paid in March along with yearly bonuses and the February and March wages to be paid after that. The workers hearing the promises from their representatives decided not to stop the strike.
