Iran: concern

Telecom Research Center of Iran (TRCI), affiliated to ICT Ministry, did not allocate the $5.3 million budget that was planned for current (Iranian) year (ending on March 20th, 2007) activities of private IT firms.
Managing Director of Data Link Company, Mohammad Niakan said in an interview with ILNA among other things that the amount of $5.3mn was allocated to the ICT Ministry’s IT Research Center but that that center used all that money as a personal property, allocating no portion of it to the private firms’ IT projects.
He emphasized that the IT industry is going to face a severe crisis next year and referred to the problems of private IT firms of not receiving their overdue debts both from individuals and from the government,





USA government expressed her concern over the Iranian government`s treatment of ethnic and religious minority groups inclusive Azeri in Iran.
She highlighted the case of Abbas Lisani who is currently on a hunger strike and being held in solitary confinement.
Other minority groups are repressed as well, including Kurds, Baha'i and ethnic Arabs.
"The regime's repression affects religious minorities, students, women, labor unions, journalists and academics," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.




The EU has today issued a strong condemnation of Iran's execution of the four Ahwazi on January 24.
The (pdf)statement condemns execution and calls on Iran to halt the executions of the remaining three men, and to allow these men a fair and public trial.
The declaration was supported by the governments of EU and EFTA member states and EU candidate countries, including Turkey. Ukraine and Moldova also backed the European Presidency's condemnation.

Also inside Iran there were condemnations.
Ahwazi Arab activists point out that the executions broke Islamic laws which forbid killing during the month of Moharam.
Iranian human rights activists criticize the trials and the executions.
Emad Baghi has said in a interview(Farsi) with Radio Zamaneh that the Iranian regime should admit that the executions were a mistake and that the men did nothing and did not take part in any explosions.
Baghi also said the root causes of unrest among Ahwazi Arabs are poverty and unequal distribution of wealth.The Arabs do not have good housing, healthy drinking water, electricity and live in poverty, although they live on top of oil reserves.
They are also barred from working for the government."
