Iran: investigate

September 28 are in Taybad prison five people hanged.
According to the report of Iranian police, the five were convicted for drugstrafficking
and were not named.

Yesterdays students of universities in Tehran demonstrated for
the second day. Advarnews reported that round 1000 students protested at
Sharif university against the visit of Minister of Education and Science, Kamran
Daneshjoo.
The website also reported that security guards were not able to disperse the crowed as
it kept growing.
Monday students at Tehran University demonstrated also, causing President
Ahmadinejad to cancel his visit there.
Sunday there was a smaller demonstration outside the philosophy department building of
Tehran University, where a member of Parliament, Gholam Ali Hadad Adel, gave a speech.
The protests were the first of the new schoolyear, despite the many this summer
arrested important studentleaders and professors.

Mehrnews reports that 10 policemen are detained for the
abuse and folter in Kahrizakprison.
More then 100 lawsuits have been filed against the judiciary in Kahrizak
prison,inclusive some judges.
A member of the investigating committee in parliament, Farhad Tajari, said that the
judiciary was determined to hold a trial over what happened there at the "first appropriate time".

The Iranian parliament demands an investigation to polluted Indian Basmati rice.
Last week a laboratory in Iran reportedly detected traces of arsenic, cadmium and lead
in the rice imported from India.
Investigation learned that the arsenic level in imported Indian rice was 9.7 times
higher than the standard level.
The cadmiumlevel is 0,4 ppm and the permitted level is

0,2ppm. India said to ask farmers not to sow Basmati in areas that have high constituents of
heavy metals.

Ahmad Zaidabadi, chairman of Iranian Student Organization and a wellknown

journalist is heavily beaten by a team of interrogators in Evin prison.
His most serious charge is composing an open letter to the leader.
His wife tells that they were notified that he did not need a lawyer and when she asked
him he said that he had not made such a statement, and that the authorities have lied.
There was also a change of interrogators and one of the interrogators told him they
were authorized to do anything they wish.

PressTV reports that Sunday 22.936.000 shares (51%)
of Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) have been obtained by Etemad Mobin
consortium.
The consortium is composed of three companies, Mobin Electronics Development Company,
Shahryar Mehestan and Tose'e Etemad Investments.
ILNA describes the consortium as "quasi-governmental".
The TCI was the latest privatization from the government.
The only fully private-sector contender for the shares, Pishgaman Kavir Yazd Cooperative Company,already spent $15 millions on the preparations , before it was disqualified for "safetyreasons", a couple of hours before the bids opened.

TeleGeography reports that two of three companies of Etemad Mobin are controled by Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) the military elitegroup.
This means that the Iranian telecomcompany is in armyhands.
The managing director of Securities and Exchange Organisation of Iran said that the firm will be required to pay 20% of shares within 30 days to make the deal effective.

Iran: further


In Kurdistan are by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence people arrested because of the recent murders of midSeptember.
Sunday are two men killed and various others arrested who according to IRNA have ties with foreign organizations and were instructed to carry out a mission to divide Sunni and Shia muslims.
Several guns and weapons were confiscated.

PressTV wrote September 26, that in Iran 152 traffic accidents on roads across the country have claimed the lives of 28 people and left 201 others injured in the past 24 hours. Among the main causes of crashes were 35 cases of overturning and 38 cases of careless driving.
Failing to comply with double white lines is another reason.
Sporadic rain in most roads in Ardebil, Golestan and Mazandaran province has made the roads slippery.
The most important car collision took place on Isfahan - Naein road which killed 2 people and injured 5 others.

The mother of Fariba Pajouh, a journalist and blogger who was arrested more then a month ago, wrote an open letter to her daughter which has been published by Iran Human Rights Activists in Iran.
Last week Pajouh was transferred from solitary confinement to a cell she shares with another detained journalist,Henhameh Shahidi.

Iran: capture

In the prison of Sarakhs is Thursday, September 24th, a woman hanged.
ISNA reports that she was sentenced to death for killing her husband 10 years ago.
Her name was not mentioned.

RSF warned September 24 that the health and lives of detained journalists are in danger because of mistreatment and torture.
Ahmad Zeydabadi is arrested June 14 and spent 35 days in solitary detention in a cell, looking like a tomb. His family says that authorities want that he publicly apologise and to ask for a pardon from the Supreme Leader.
Said Matinpour was arrested July 11, after being summoned to the 15th chamber of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
He has respiratory problems as a result of a lung infection and other healthissues.
Bahaman Ahamadi Amoee was arrested on june 20 together with his wife, and is still being held in solitary confinement in section 209 of Evin prison.He made bail, but "it is lost"
His lawyer says that "the file is missing", something he has never seen before in his career and which is a worrying sign.
His wife, Jila Baniyaghoob. is released August 19, after paying bail of 90.000 euros.
Shiva Nazar Ahari a blogger of women´s website azadiezan, is released after three months in custody,September 23 after paying bail of 180.000 euros.

Maziar Bahari, correspondent of magazine Newsweek,has been arrested 3 months ago and Fariba Pajooh, who works for Radio France Internationale and other media is imprisoned two months ago.
These journalisten have since the start of the showtrials not been able to see their own lawyers, who in turn have not been able see their clients’ prosecution files.
Instead, lawyers linked to the intelligence services have been assigned by the Tehran prosecutor general to represent the journalists.

September 22 was the appeals session of Ali Pour-Soleiman, a teacher from district 9 in Tehran. The initial sentence of the court was exile to for two years to Eslam Shahr.
In appeal he was sentenced to 35 floggings and one year in exile to Eslam Shahr. The ruling was based on art. 9(h) of the administrative offenses act.
In the ruling he was named as an activist who took part in teachers’ gatherings and as a main element in encouraging other teachers to go on strike and sit-ins.

In Shahreza ,Isfahan province, is the rate of suicides since the start of this calendaryear increased.
At least four cases of suicide, from which two were married men, were reported.
Hospitalreports show several other suicide attempts which did not result in death.
Shareza is in a ow population area with many socio-economic problems.

Mostafa Faghihi, managing editor of the newspaper Entekhab News officially announced the closure of his organization and told its readers that the mission chosen by Entekhab and its associates, be it yesterday, today or tomorrow, will not change.
That's why it announced its closure until filters imposed on the organization are removed.

September 16, is Omid Shekari, arrested in Ardebil, where he had gone to visit his family.
Shkari wrote many articles about the discrimination and violation of Azeri in Iran.
Charges were not revealed and the authorities refuse to tell his family why he has been arrested.
From 2001-2006 Shekari was responsible for publishing the Sayan student newsletter which was being printed in Azeri, Farsi and English. Sayan, had close to 50 prizes to its credit from various sources, but it was forced to shut by authorities.

September 22 is political activist Maysam Roudaki arrested. She was on her way to the UNbuilding in Tehran to report about the recent events in Tehran, when agents of the informationbureau arrested her and took her to hall 4 of ward 7 of Evinpison.
She had been previously arrested in September 2007 and charged for acting against national security. She spent 70 days in ward 209 of Evin and was released on fifty thousand dollars bail. The legal case against her remains open.

Morteza Alviri, ex-mayor of Tehran, has been arrested two weeks ago, when files and documents belonging to the committee set up to follow-up on the cases of those who have been injured or detained were confiscated by agents sent from the prosecutor’s office.
Till now, no charges have been made.
He is in solitary confinement in ward 209 of Evinprison.

One detainee from a Ghods Day solidarity demonstration in the city of Rasht revealed mistreatments and assaulting of detainees by security forces.
Hadi Resaei son of Jamshid Resaei, member of Gilan’s chapter in the Participation Front and member of the Mojahedin Organization, was arrested and beaten. When the interrogator found out his father is a member of the Participation Front and the Mojahedin Organization, he was beat more than the others, because his father is a member of two anti-revolution organizations, and reminded him to tell his father by whom and why he has been assaulted.

Iran: fiction and reality

Amnesty International reports that Mohsen Abdolkhani and Hamid Karimnia, despite the fact that European Court of Human Rights Tuesday ruled that they had been arbitrarily detained in Turkey still are not released.
Abdolkhani and Karimnia are two ex-members of People’s Mojahedin Organization in Iran (PMOI), and would face a real risk of death or ill-treatment if returned to Iran or Iraq. They are recognized as refugees by UNHCR.
They are imprisoned for over a year.

GlobalVoicesOnline report that human rights activist and blogger Shiva Nazar Ahari, is released on bailbond from Evinprison after 100 days.
She spent 33 days in isolated confinement.


Converted christians Maryam Razandi, Ashraf Onidi, Mehdi Mohammadi, Mobina Lak, Nariman Sharifi, Shahin and Shahnam Yar-Mohammad Tosaki are released on bail September 2nd, after being arrested July 29th in Tehran with 25 other christians.
Most were released after “extensive interrogation” but the seven converts were transferred to Evin prison.
September 16 they were tried for "apostasy".
They could face the death penalty for “apostasy” as they abandoned Islam.


PressTV reports that Ahmadinejad in New York at a meeting with students said that religious minorities are not persecuted and can live freely in Iran.
Under the constitution it says that recognized religious minorities have the right to elect representatives of their own.

Akbar Ganji wrote a comment for CNN about the elections in Iran and the aftermath.
He writes among other things that Iran's leaders must be charged for denying democratic freedom to their citizens.
He also says that worldleaders should avoid any recognition of Ahmadinejad and that the Iranian people reject Ahmadinejad's claim to represent them.
Akbar Ganji is a leading Iranian dissident and pro-democratic activist. Hij was six years jailed in Evinprison of Tehran for his reporting on human rights violations in Iran
Since his release he lives in the USA.
He is the author of the book "The Road to Democracy in Iran" (MIT Press, 2008).

Iran: swap

The Iranian minister of science, Kamran Daneshjou has plagiarized.
The Nature blog, The Great Beyond, found out that large pieces of texts and tables from a paper, published in 2009 by Daneshjou as co-auteur, are identical with a paper by a South-Korean author, which was published in 2002.
It is probably not the only plagiarized work by Daneshjou.

France on Wednesday rejected Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s suggestion that Paris consider a prisoner swap if it wants to secure the release of Clotilde Reiss who is detained for nearly three months.d
In an interview Ahmadinejad would not say whether he would help Reiss, but said that there were Iranians who were also being held in France “for years”.
Probably he was referring to Iranian national Ali Vakili Rad, jailed in France for the murder of Shapour Bakhtiar, Iran’s last prime minister under Shah .
The French foreign ministry says that there is no comparison between the situation of Clotilde Reiss and these people.
French daily, Le Figaro, reported on its website that French authorities were considering the idea of freeing Rad.

The head of the party, Mohsen Mirdamadi and other keymembers are detained since June.
Norooz made a list with 20 names of members of Islamic Iran Participation Front who are in prison.

Iran: visible

Payvand did a little survey among the readers of her site where one of the questions was if people believe that Iranian government has tortured its people in the recent months since 2009 election.
The answers made clear that 9 in 10 people believe so.
Also was asked if people believe torture is a viable technique for information gathering.
This question was answered with "no" by 72% of the people.

Syed Mehdi Niaki, a journalist and weblogger is arrested September 14 and transferred to an unknown location.
He worked for various reformist newspapers, compiled prior to the election news for Kalameh and under Khatami's presidency he was chairman of pressorganization Sinapress, which organization is forbidden by president Ahmadinejad.
His mother knew about his arrest and was threatened not to tell anybody.
She hasn't heard any news in six days.
