Iran: gone

Contrary to early reports, the five Iranian engineers who were caught in Syria, were released, yesterday it was confirmed that the released Iranians were in fact pilgrim, but that the engineers still are hold.
ISNA reported that the pilgrims were handed over to Turkish authorities and that efforts continue to the release of five engineers abducted in Homs.

Journalist Massoud Lavasani is disappeared during a walk and his father told ICHRI that there is heavy pressure on the family and that they are under heavy control.
He was released in September 2011 after serving 2 years in prison. January 6th 2012 securityagents raided his house and arrested his wife, journalist , Fatemeh Kheradmand. January 31st she was released.
Since then the family is under heavy control.

Iran: wrong

Sunday 1 April is the day that the 7 Bahaileaders have spent 10.000 days in jail.
They were arrested in 2008 and after spending 20 months in Evinprison they were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naeimi, Saeid Rezaie, Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Vahid Tizfahm are serving their sentence in Gohardashtprison in Karaj and Fariba Kamalabadi and Mahvash Sabet are detained in Evinprison.

This week were in Kuala Lumpur two suitcases with counterfeit $100 notes taken from 2 Iranians who traveled to Malaysia with a direct flight from Tehran. One contained 153,000 forged dollars and the second 203,000.
The Iranians told that they were issued the bills by tellers at the Iranian central bank CBI to finance their business transactions and they  had no notion.

The Iranian government suspended the press accreditation of Reuters after the publication of a video story on women's martial arts training.
The name of the article was corrected after the women of the sportsclub in Tehran filed a complaint.
The original head of the article was "Thousands of female Ninjas train as Iran's assassins" (video) and was corrected to read "Three thousand women Ninjas train in Iran".
The chief of Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance contacted Reuters wich resulted in 11 personnel were told to hand back their press cards.

Iran: more

IRGC reports that they arrested a group of terrorists in Southeastern Iran.
According to IRNA the Qodsgroup of IRGC has dismantled a group of terrorists that had recently entered Iran “guided by enemy spy agencies and terrorists groups supported by global arrogance".
In recent years the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan has been the site of several violent conflicts.

The jailed journalists Ahmad Zeidabadi(photo) en Mehdi Mahmoudian were given a furlough to spend Nowrouz with their familymembers.
Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that they Tuesday were released from Rejaishahr Prison in Karaj.
Zeidabadi serves a prisonsentence of six years exile to Gonabad and a ban on journalism and social activities.
Mahmoudian is sentenced to 5 years in jail and a ban on journalism.

Iran: charge

Amnesty International published a report PDF about the executions in 2011.
At least 676 executions were carried out worldwide in 2011, these are 527 more then in 2010. The increase is largely due to a significant increase in judicial killings in Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The executions in China were not counted in this list.

Political prisoner, student activist, journalist, blogger, and member of Iran National Front Peyman Aref has been returned to Evinprison after being one day in the hospital.
He reportedly ended his hunger strike upon his return to prison today. He is protesting his continued detention despite the fact he had posted bail.

In The Guardian is an interview with Ali Mahin Torabi who was sentenced to death when he was 16, after killing another boy in a fight.
After seven years, seven months and 11 days,he was set free at a review of his case.
After being summoned again he fled to Turkey.

As part of Amnesty Internationals campaign against the deathpenalty Sherbet made an animation video about the lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei, who has saved 20 of the 40 juveniles he has defended from execution in Iran.
He had to flee himself and lives now in Norway.

Reported is that Iran tries to increase its influence in Yemen by cooperating with rebels in North and South..
At an interview with Reuters the American envoy to Sanaa said that there is proof that Hezbollah and Hamas back Iran in this.

President Ahmadinejad said at a conference on Afghanistan in Tajikistan that the USA went into Afghanistan in late 2001 under the pretext of fighting against terrorism, and was now using the same pretext to encircle the whole region.

The Iranian Statistics Centre says that 84% of the internetusers still use the dial-up method to connect to the web.
Only about 13 percent of Iranian internet users have access to high-speed internet.
From a population of 75 million, only 11 million Iranians use the Web. Tehran, Mazandaran and Esfahan have the highest number of internet users, and Sistan-Baluchistan has the least.
Iranian internetusers mostly complain about their slow internet speed and service disruptions.

The Chinese telecommunication Company ZTE heeft announced that it will reduce the trade with Iran after Reuters reported Thursday about ZtE has sold a powerful surveillance system to Iran that’s capable of monitoring telephone and internet communications.
The system is included in a a $130-million contract with Iran that was signed in 2010.

Iran: economics

EU has tightened restrictions against Iranian authorities over human rights abuses.
EU added 17 names to the blacklist of people with frozen assets and travel bans "for serious human rights violations". the total is 78 names.
Also exports of equipment and software intended for use in the monitoring or interception of internet and telephone communications by the Iranian state is banned.

Iran: thoughts

Defrocked cleric, member of Participation Front, and student of late Ayatollah Montazeri, Ahmadreza Ahmadpour is serving a jailterm of 4 years in Sepidar Prison of Ahwaz and exile of 10 years to the city of Izeh.
His family who lives in Qom has been facing many limitations recently, including cancellation of his furlough leave.

Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi released despite his house arrest, and 20-year ban on making films, a new film titled This Is Not a Film,smuggled out of the country in a cake.
In December 2010 Panahi was convicted to a ban of 20 years writing scripts, directing films, giving interviews or leaving the country, for “making propaganda against the system” and placed under house arrest.
He is also waiting execution of a 6 years prison verdict.

The Iranian UN Mission says that an Iranian identified in an Associated Press story as being under surveillance by the New York Police Department and as a potential spy by the FBI was being illegally harassed and was not involved in spying.
The man, Gholamzadeh Mahabadi Hossein who works close to the UN Mission of Iran was used by the AP to illustrate the dysfunctional relationship between the New York Police Department and the FBI, and how it sometimes jeopardizes cases and national security.

Narges Mohammadi, deputy director of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC) who on March 5th in appeal was sentenced to 6 years in prison told International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that she will not request a pardon as all DHRC activities were based on the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The now banned Defenders of Human Rights Center was founded by Shirin Ebadi, Abdolfattah Soltani, Mohammad Ali Dadkhah, Mohammad Seifzadeh, and Mohammad Sharif.

Iran: sanctions

Japan promised to cut substantial oilimports from Iran.
United States announced a decision to exempt Belgium, Britain, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Japan, from new sanctions.
South Korea, India, and China, were not exempted.

Last week Amir Hossein Ardebili is deported by USA to Iran, after he had completed his prison sentence.
Ardebili was found guilty in 2009 on charges of conspiracy, money laundering, smuggling, and arms export control violations.
He was convicted to five years in prison with credit for time served.

Reports say that on the last Wednesday for Iranian new year in the cities Degulan and Kirmashan 70 Kurds have been arrested.

He had been forced by torture to make a televised confession against Mehdi Karroubi.

Iran: happy Nowrouz








In a message written for the Iranian New Year the Kurdish political prisoner Reza Sharifi Bukani reminds the public that this year also hundreds of political prisoners will spend Norooz in one of Irans prisons.
Bukani was arrested in 2010 in an internet cafĂ© in Tehran. He was sentenced to death on charges of “enmity against God” and “corruption on Earth” but his sentence was later reduced to 30 years in jail, and in a final review of the case, he was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

The former Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi has been announced to head of the Social Security Fund, despite impending charges against him regarding the torture and death of inmates at Kahrizak Prison.
He was appointed by president Ahmadinejad in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Cooperatives, Employment and Social Security and other members of his administration.
His appointment is severely criticised by many people.
The Mothers of Laleh Park have also denounced Mortazavi’s appointment.

Iran: protests

The imprisoned Gonabadi Dervishes in ward 350 of Evin prison suffer because of malnutrition, iron deficiency and anemia.
A reporter of Majzoonan Noor website wrote that this is diagnosed for lawyers, administrators and staffs from this website who are in detention more than six months.
Article 95 of executive regulation of prison organization, food menu should include vegetables, fruits, and meat every week,which almost never happens in ward 350.
90% of the food in ward 350 is not properly cooked and food are often dumped in trash.

After 70 days of hungerstrike is blogger, publisher and physician Mahdi Khazali released by authorities from Evinprison.
January 9 he was arrested and spent 25 days in isolation before he was transferred to ward 350. Website Kaleme says that he suffered more then 30 kilo weightloss.
Also just days ahead of the Iranian New Year, in Mati Kola prison in Babol a number of political prisoners were released from detention.
Among them are the singer Arya Aramnejad and the mother of imprisoned humanrightsactivist Kouhar Koudarzi, Parvin Mokhtareh.

Saturdaymorning were in Shiraz the Bahai Kavoos Samimi and Kambiz Habibi arrested.Human Rights Reporters Committee reported that first their houses were raided.
In February were four other Bahai arrested and the houses of more then 350 Bahai in Shiraz searched.
Dori Amri and Mona Rezai who were arrested in Mashhad are sentenced to one year in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime through practicing the Baha’i faith.

March 8 the steelworkers of Asadabad protested against the not payment of four months’ back wages.
On March 14 retired workers of Iran Air protested about unpaid wages and pensions.
Also on March 14 more then 70 workers of Ahvaz Sugar and Sugar Refinary Factory demanded at the governors office for last year wages and pensions.
On March 11 and 12 2000 workers of Neibor Industries and Planting Company in Shoushtar striked for 2 days demanding the implementation of the Occupation Rationalization Plan.

Iran: nowadays

Iran strenghtens the censorship on internet. In the last week the Iranian government formed a high council dedicated to cleansing the country's Internet of sites that threaten morality and national security.
In this council are heads of intelligence, militia, security and the powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as media chiefs.
Charged with supervising all cyberactivity, the council also has the power to make laws. The body will have its own budget and offices.

Shahrokh Zamani , member of Tehran’s Organizing Committee for Construction Painting, and Decorations Union, who is sentenced to 11 years in the prison of Tabriz for the crime of organizing painters in a trade union, wrote a letter to the French union.

Kurdish political prisoner Habibollah Golparipour has been transferred to solitary confinement from the prison in Orumieh to an unknown location.
Golparipour has been sentenced to death for moharebeh (enmity with god) and cooperation with PJAK.

The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) reported that February 22nd during a raid from security agents in Isfahan several christians arrested.
One of them was Giti Afrouz Hakimpour a 78 year-old woman. February 25th she was released due to her high age.
That same day also pastor Hekmat Salimi, was arrested.
There were more people arrested In Isfahan. IHRDC will release more information about these arrests as it is received.

In July he was arrested and he spent 2 months in isolation before he was allowed to contact his family.
Also his mother, Parvin Mokhtareh was arrested 1 day after her son in Kerman. She had been accused of insulting the supreme leader, propaganda against the regime and acting against national security.

440 Iranian civic and political activists of various groups have signed a statement demanding that the government allow political prisoners to spend the New Year, Nowrooz, with their families.
Nowrooz is the first day of spring, March 21st.
