Iran: footage

HRANA published photo's and a video of the prison Rajai Shahr in Karaj.
This is one of the most dangerous and notorious prisons in Iran.
More than 70 political prisoners are detained here.
HRANA made a serie of reports about humanrightsabuse and torture in this prison.
In this video a man discusses the abuse and sexual assault he has endured. He hopes to spread his story and the injustices inflicted on him.
This video was taped in Rajai prison in Karaj. Due to security reasons HRANA is not able to discuss how they obtained the video. The person in the video is still detained in Rajai Shahr prison.

The video displays the torture wounds inflicted on a prisoner in Rajai Shahr. Both arms of the young man are broken. One of the voices in the video states that what you see is a way of life in Rajai Shahr prison.
Another voice explains that Akharian, the head of ward 1 in the prison, has repeatedly stated that no one is able to tell him what to do because he is the boss of the prison.

Iran: prisoners

May 29 is in the prison of Isfahan a man hanged.
The man, Nour Jamal S. (26) an Afghan national was convicted of smuggling 1350 grams of crack.

Omid Sahrifi Dana who was arrested a few days after Ashura is, is convicted to 6 years in prison.
After his arrest there was no information as to his condition until February 3rd, where he appeared in a show trial broadcasted on television.

De Green Voice of Freedom reports about Kurdistan,two weeks after the general strike.
The government continues to summon and threaten bazaar merchants, arrest activists and fuel speculation that it would carry out death sentences for other political prisoners.

May 28 is unionist Rasoul Bodaghi, a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Teachers Trade Association,severely beaten by guards in Karaj Gohardasht prison.
He was taken to the corridor and tied to the prison bars and repeatedly beaten sustaining injuries on his head, face, and his teeth.
His fellow inmates, under them journalist, member of the central board of Iranian Journalists Trade Association, an the head of Islamic Iran Students (Advar Tahkim Vahdat),
Ahmad ZeidAbadi protested and were also beaten.
Two other members of the board of directors of the Yazd union of the Teachersunion Mohammad Ali Shahedi and Mohammad Ali Shirazi, were recently arrested in Yazd.
An other note reports that Mansour Osanloo, the leader of the Tehran and Municipality Vahed Bus Workers Syndicate, is transferred to ward 5 of Gohardasht.
This is the special ward for those prisoners being treated with Methadone or inflicted with Hepatitis, and AIDS.
The transfer followed a complaint of a prisoner named Seyyed Mohammad Rouhollah Hashemi who is detained for the murder on his brother and his brother in law.
It is reported that those behind the complaint are the head and the deputy head of security at Gohardasht.

Shahidias repeatedly complained to the prosecutor’s representative about holding political prisoners in the same place as criminals.

Iran: statements


At a fire , caught in a well in the town of Naftshahr in western Kermanshah province at 6.25 local time, 3 people died and 12 people got wounded.
According to an official the fire was caused by the leakage of gas near drilling machinery and has still not been extinguished.

According to new disciplinary regulations at the Medical School of Shiraz is laughing out loud prohibited.
The ruling is in chapter 7, paragraph 23 of the university regulations.
This is the first time such regulations have been implemented at the university level in Iran.
The regulation includes a ban on t-shirts for men and coloured Manteaus (long shirts and light jackets) for women. It also includes a ban on long fingernails and high heels shoes taller than three centimeters.
These rulings were announced at least three months ago, but university management was not able to enforce the rules due to student protests.
However at a meeting Basij students by chanting and protestletters enforced the management to imply the regulations.

The journalist Issa Saharkhiz, who has been detained for almost a year without a trial, suffered hartproblems and was visited by doctors yesterday.
He has been recently moved to the prison in Rajaee-Shahr and the prison’s authorities have denied him access to his heart medication.

The reformist Assembly of Combatant Clerics has issued a statement for the anniversary of the Green movement’s first birtday.In this statement , the Assembly reminds of the importance of the Green Movement for democracy and the fact that many people are in prisons with heavy and unfair sentences.
Finally, the Assembly reiterates that the solution to get out of the current crisis is to free all political prisoners and hold free elections.
Some of the leading members of the Assembly are: former President Mohammad Khatami, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, Mohammad Mousavi Khoeini, and the brother of the Supreme Leader, Hadi Khamenei.

The reformist Islamic Iran Participation Front has issued a statement regarding the events of last year’s month of Khordaad (June).
The IIPF states that the reformist movement was established based on necessities to free elections and that people’s votes must be the determining factor.
Het IIPF condemns the government’s attacks on people’s freedom, security and dignity in the name of religion and by using all the government’s official and unofficial power and denounces its accusations against people, scholars, artists and politicians who took part in the peaceful demonstration of millions of protestors on last years Khordad 25 (June 15).
At the end of its statement the Participation Front warns that the country is in crisis in every aspect; and the only way out of this crisis is to completely execute the constitution and for the government to recognize people’s demands for reviving their rights, free gatherings, parties, press and elections.

International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has published a picture of the state medical examiner’s report on the sexual assault of Ebrahim Mehtari in prison.
Mehtari was August 2009 abducted by officers of the revolutionary guards and abused in a location in Eastern Tehran.

In the morning of Ahmadinejad’s visit to Kerman, were 17 students arrested.
30 other students were threathened with prosecution in case they enter the university or attend Ahmadinejad’s welcoming ceremony.The arrested students were transferred to an unknown place.
The students of Shahid Bahonar University in Kerman support the Green Movement.
Earlier this week, Ahmadinejad’s speech in Khorramshahr was marred by citizens demanding jobs.

Ali Parviz, a student at Khajeh Nasir’s University of Technology is imprisoned in Evinprison since November 4..
According to Kaleme, Parviz was transferred with other prisoners to Ward 209, in the middle of the night and blindfolded.
Parviz objected because during one of the previous interrogations he had been forced to sign false confessions while blindfolded.Following the objection they transferred him to solitary confinement.
RAHANA notes that according to paragraph 6 of the act which protects citizenship rights, it is unlawful to humiliate or blindfold prisoners during arrest or interrogation.

May 25 is in Zahedan a man hanged.
The man, "Jamshid Mir" was accused of rape.
He was arrested in March and swiftly charged and executed based on the accusation.
The speed of issuing, affirming and executing of this verdict is according to HRANA shocking, given the fact that thousands of people are in prison all over the country without any charges being brought against them.

Azerbaijani National Security arrested in May 24 drugssmugglers who were trafficking drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan and Russia.
254kg of drugs were confiscated.

The site Only Democracy for Iran writes that Iran's Intelligence Ministry is due to broadcast a documentary in which they provide “new evidence” about the West’s version of events around the murder on Neda Agha Soltan.
The authorities suggested last year already that the murder was staged.
The release of the documentary, only a few weeks for the anniversary of the disputed election, appears to be another attempt to neutralize the impact of her death and again place blame on foreign countries.

In the Karoun prison of Ahwaz is Sunday May 23 a man hanged.
The man, S. R. was convicted for keeping 675 grams of heroine.

The Chief of police in Tehran announced that security forces will take firm action against any illegal rallies, whether it is on special days or not.
The governeur of Tehran also said that the reformists did not request for staging demonstrations on the anniversary of the presidential electiins(June 12).
Reformist leaders have announced that they have requested official permission for staging demonstrations on June 12.


On Sunday Iranian parlement voted in favor of a stricter morality policybill.

The new bill is about: Islamic attire and limits, public decency, family, moral security, commercial cheating and overpricing, public and environmental health, citizenship rights, usury, bribery, and breaking fast in public.The Council’s chief will be appointed by the Islamic Republic supreme leader and is directly responsible only to the supreme leader.

A member of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission told ILNA that the education and research commission will research allegations of fraud by Mohammad Reza Rahimi, vice-president of Ahmadinejad.He had “doubts” about the “authenticity” of Rahimi’s doctorate degree.

Reports from Evinprison confirm that several female prisoners have been held illegally for months, and face charges which can lead to heavy verdicts.
The website Kalemeh writes that Maryam Akbari-Monfared is detained since December 31 on charges of moharebe and being a member of MKO.
Akbari-Monfared is a mother of 3 children, of which the youngest is 5 years old.
Parvin Javanzadeh, 22 has been arrested December 27 and is still in limbo in Evin.
She is the youngest female political prisoner.She spent the first 3 months of her captivity in solitary confinement at an IRGC detention cente and is in a bad moral and physical condition.
Reports from Evin suggest that she faces Moharbeh charges, and her case has recently been sent to the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court.
Other women who are unlawfully in Evin on expired detention orders are: Kobra Zagheh-Doost, Badrolsadat Mofidi (secretary of the Iranian Journalists Association) and Fatemeh Khorramjoo
All 3 are in bad physical and psychological condition.

Iran: media

The Green Voice of Freedom published an article of Mohammad Ali Tofighi in which he writes that the unexpected execution May 9th of 5 prisoners, four of them Kurds, sparked unprecedented support for their cause.
National opposition leaders also protested, even though the Kurdish case has never gathered much backing in the rest of Iran in the past, partly because they were suspected of wanting a separate state.

His conclusion, ending the article is that many Iranians believe the latest executions signal a willingness by the regime to radicalise the political atmosphere in Kurdistan in order to divert public attention from other domestic issues.
But the widespread support shown to their cause may not have been anticipated by the government.

May 24 are at 0.100AM 6 feminin political prisoners Ozrasadat Ghazi-Mirsaeed, Atefeh Navabi, Fatemeh Rahnama, Hengameh Shahidi, Rayhaneh Hajebrahim-Dabagh and Mottahareh Bahrami transferred to Ward 209 of Evinprison.
Later they returned to the ward, and it became clear they had been summoned for interrogation.

The mother of Majid Tavakoli spoke in a interview with the website Jaras about the effects of media-attention and support for the hungerstrike of "wellknown" prisoners.
Jafar Panahi is releaseddue to international pressure.
Her son also is in hungerstrike, but the eyes of the world are, unlike for Panahi and Nourizad, not focussed at him.
She is very worried about his health, he has gone to the prison clinic on several occasions due to his condition.
She also talked about Mehdi Karroubi’s phone call and said Karroubi was the only person to call her and hopes that other politicians follow Karroubi’s example.
Wednesday May 26 is a worldwide hungerstrike in solidarity with Majid Tavakoli.

United4Iran announced that Saturday June 12 (22 Khordad) a worldwide actionday is held urging Iran to stop humanrightsabuse.
This day is organized by United4Iran, together with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Nobel Women's Initiative, Baha'i International Community, Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, FIDH (Federation Internationale des ligues des Droits de l'Homme), and Pen International.
The focus is aimed at prisoners of conscience, (PoC) who were arrested before and after the presidential election in 2009.

IRNA reported that Monday in the prison of Zahedan, Abdolhamid Rigi, the brother of Abdolmalek Rigi, the leader of the Jundullahgroup has been hanged.
On June 6 2009 Iranian media reported also that Andolhamid Rigi was hanged.

Majid Tavakoli declared a full hungerstrike after he was transferred to the isolation ward of ward 240 of Evinprison.
He told a few prisoners of plans to go on a hunger strike if he was transferred to solitary confinement.
According to reports, over the past week, his health deteriorated and he was sent to the prison clinic on a few occasions.

Hamed Rouhinejad, is sentenced to 10 years in prison, to serve in the prison of Zanjan. He was accused of associating with the monarchist group Anjoman Padeshahi Iran. He was previously sentenced to death.
Although Rouhinejad suffers from MS and is physical incapable to withstand prison pressures , prisonofficers have prevented Rouhinejad’s family from delivering his medicine,

Humanrightsactivist,member of One Million Signatures Campaign, Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, and Tahkim-e Vahdat (office for consolidating unity) member Kaveh Ghasemi Kermanshahi who was arrested February 3, has been released May 22.
In recent days his family had submitted the $100,000 bail.
Kermanshahi was detained for over 100 days.

May 21 is Azeri civilrightsactivist Behboud Gholizadeh arrested in the city of Miandoab.
According to website Savalan Sessi he was arrested in his photograph studio, where agents took also his computer, CD's and other personal belongings.
Gholizadeh is the head of the NGO Yashil which permit has been revoked due to allegations about the organisation's adoption of a separatist agenda.
In recent weeks, more then 12 Azeri have been arrested by the authorities.

Emad Bahavar and Amir Hossein Kazemi, 2 members of the youth branch of Iranian Freedom Movement, have come under renewed physical and psychological pressure to make a televised confession.
Emad Bahavar has been returned to the isolation ward and his visitation rights have been revoked.
Their temporary detention orders expired 15 days ago, but they were not released.

100 days after his arrest, nothing is known about the charges against blogger and studentactivist Aliakbar Ajami, a member of Students for Equality and Freedom and editor-in-chief of studentpublication A Better World.

May 19 Mohieddin Azadi, a Kurdish humanrights and civilrightsactivist started a hungerstrike to protest the lack of medical treatment.
According to Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, Azadi is said to be in critical condition. Azadi was arrested in March 2008 and as a result of the bad physical treatment in prisons in Sanandaj and Saghez he is in poor health.
Last year he was convicted to 4 years in prison for having ties to foreign elements.

Due to the new rules of the Ministry of Education, Bahai Shadan Shirzi, 14 cannot register in the school for 8th grade.
Previously, the government allowed all students to sign up for the School’s entrance exam and only prevented Baha’i students from registration after passing the test.
The form is changed so, that if applicants fail to fill out the “religion” option, a box with this message pops out: “Unfortunately, the information given was not submitted.”

The guardians of Rajai Shahr prison continue to attack defenseless prisoners and destroying their personal belongings. A number of prisoners suffered injuries. Despite their injuries, the prisoners have not received any treatment.These organized and systematic attacks are a trend in recent months. Recently 80 refrigerators have been destroyed by prison guards.
In recent years Rajai Shahrprison has turned into a place of exile for political prisoners who are forced detainment with prisoners sentenced to serious crimes and who suffer from skin and blood diseases.
