Iran: permission

The 1 year prisonsentence for Bahai student Sama Nourani had been upheld in appeal.
Hij is member of Committee to Defend Education Rights, and is, although he had been accepted into a biomedical engineering program deprived from university.

Mohsen Barazvan, member of the electionscampaign 2009 was arrested in his house 10 days ago and since then there is no news of him.
Campaignmembers Emad Bahavar, Esmaeil Sahabeh, Yousef Mehr are currently serving their sentence.
Saber Abbasian, head of the election campaign Fars Province who is sentenced to 5 years in jail, is on furlough.

Humanrightslawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, who is sentenced to 11 years in prison and a ban from practicing law for 20 years appeared Sunday for the Iran Bar Association.
The judiciary has called to revoke her lawyerspermit.
The final verdict was forwarded to the appeals court to be considered at a later date.

May 29th, 2 men were hanged in public at Azadisquare in Kermanshah..
P. Mohammadi Poshtehrizeh, was convicted of the rape of a 12-year-old boy and A. Namaki, was convicted for the rape of a 9-year-old girl.
The charges have not been confirmed by independent sources.

Female political prisoners in the quarantaineward of Evin prison Iran wrote an open letter.
In this letter they write that male interrogators have often forced them "to make false self-incriminating confessions" by threatening them with sexual assault.
They also write that they are beaten, not allowed to get fresh air and are deprived from telephonerights.
Currently there are 32 female political prisoners in the methadone ward.

The Bahai Houshang Fanaian is sentenced to 4,5 years in prison.
He was charged for membership in anti-regimegroups, anti-regimepropaganda by membership of Facebook and insulting the Supreme Leader.

There is no information about professor Reza Sefri since he was arrested.
Charges against him include organizing Quran meetings and ignoring the suggestions and pressures by the security forces.

In the prison of Rahsht is disabled political prisoner Hadi Abedi Bakhoda Friday lashed 51 times for not returning on time in prison after a brief leave.
Bakhoda is disabled as a result of a bullet in his spinal chord at the time of his arrest in the 80's. He spent some years in prison for supporting the MKO. He was arrested on the same charges and sentenced to two years in prison.

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran reports that May 24 a man was hanged in Gohardasht prison.
Sadeq Heshmatian, 27 was hanged after 7 years in prison.
One of the reasons his death sentence was carried out was because he protested multiple times the dire prison conditions.

In Iranian parliament deputies have questioned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad about the cause of an explosion at Abadan’s refinery.
The refinery at Abadan was not yet ready, but Ahmadinejad insisted on bringing it into operation.
The explosion caused several deaths and injured.

Yesterday were 11 people hanged in Iran.
4 people were hanged in public in Shiraz.
Hamid Ranjbar Eslamlou and Hamidreza Bagheri were convicted for armed robbery, kidnapping, drinking alcohol and having immoral relationships.
Masoud Dehghan and Mehdi Alipour were convicted for rape.
In the city of Qazvin was Mehdi Faraji" (37) hanged. He was convicted for the killing and robbery of 5 women in 2009 and 2010. A young boy was used to draw the chair under him.
4 people were hanged in the prison of Yasouj.According to IRNA the unnamed men were convicted for drugstrafficking.
Aftabnews reported that 2 people were hanged in the prison of Sari. They were convicted for drugstrafficking and were not named.

Iran: secrecy

In prisons in Khuzestan province were dozens of prisoners secretly executed.
The unannounced executions took place in Karoon and Sepidar prisons in Ahvaz, Dezful Prison, and Behbahan Prison.During the period March 2010-March 2011 official only 28 executions took place in Khuzestan's prisons, but reliable sources think that the real execution statistics in Karoon and Sepidar prisons in Ahwaz were much higher.
In March told an official during a public event(fa) that more than 40 drugstraffickers have been executed.
Earlier the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran wrote about secret executions in Mashad’s Vakilabad Prison, Birjand Prison, Taibad Prison, Ghezel Hessar Prison, Orumiyeh Prison, and Karoon and Sepidar Prisons in Ahvaz.

Mansour Osanloo, founder and chairman of Syndicate of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (Sherkat-e Vahed) was been returned to prison on May 21, despite his dire condition.
He had been hospitalized for the past few days for his heart condition.

President Ahmadinejad and his entourage are being attacked from all sides.
The latest attack comes from the parliament.
The parliament, voted to investigate reports claiming that Ahmadinejad's government gave $80 each to around 9 million citizens ahead of the disputed elections.
The money is said to have been distributed as part of the "justice shares," a scheme designed by the government to help poor segments of society.
This was not made public before because of the "sensitivities".

Iran: denial and confess

According to the staterun newspaper Bornanews on May 26th in the city of Qazvin a man will be hanged in public.
The man, Mehdi (37) is sentenced to death for killing and robbery of 5 women in the period between March 2009 and March 2010.

The oppositionwebsite Kaleme reports that 26 political prisoners are under great pressure by the revolutionary guards and Tehran's prosecutor to withdraw their filed official complaint against their interrogators.It is said else they will face "harsh consequences".
In a letter they tell that they have been threatened with further charges and the loss of all their privileges inside prison.
The Iranian judiciary has denied any torture of the prisoners.

Iran: explosions

In the prison of Behbehan is May 23 a man hanged.
The man, Saeed S. (30), was sentenced to death for keeping 80 kilos of opium.

During a visit of president Ahmadinejad at a refinery in Abadan, an explosion occurred, killing 2 people and wounding 22.
It is yet unclear whether the explosion was an accident or an attack. Newsagencies reported that a gasleak caused the explosion.
The president appeared live on state television giving a scheduled speech to mark the inauguration of a new phase of the refinery in Abadan.

On May 21 are during raids against the Baha’i Institute for Higher Education for online/correspondence education, established for Bahai who are deprived from university education in Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan, and Shiraz, 30 Bahai arrested.

Verdicts and fines were handed out to the students who were victims in the attack on the dormitory of Tehran university.
According to Daneshjoonews more then than 40 students were sentencedt to prison and high fines.
Earlier Avat Rezania, a Kurdish student at Tehran university was convicted of “disturbing public order” and sentenced to a 3 month suspended prison term along with 74 lashes that can be substituted with a $3,000 fine.
Also Habib Farhazadi is sentenced to a 10 month suspended prison term with 74 lashes that can be substituted with $5,000.
Verdicts were made without official reports and in these cases the students who were considered to be the victims and plaintiffs ended up being the ones convicted.

May 22 were in the prison of Orumieh, according to Kurdish website Mukriannews 3 men hanged.
The men Changiz Nouri from Oroumieh, and 2 not named men from Shiraz were convicted of drugsrelated charges.

May 22, authorites raided the homes of Amanollah Mostaghim, Mehran Behmardi, Amin Talei, Naghmeh Mostaghim and Shahnaz Samei from online Baha’i University in Shiraz. They confiscated several university and faithrelated belongings.
Amanollah Mostaghim is transferred to No. 100 Shiraz Detention Center.

The man, Amer H. was sentenced to death for keeping 50 kilos and 40 grams of Hashish (cannabis).

Tuesday were, except for the 2 Fathi-broers, 3 other men hanged.

Mehdi Karoubi has been allowed out of housearrest to look for a new house.
In this new house, he and his wife Zahra Rahnavard will be put under house arrest again.
Karroubi and Mousavi have been held incommunicado since they called for the February14 rally in support of uprisings in the Arab world.

The revolutionary court in Tabriz convicted Azeri-activists Younes Soleimani, Mahmoud Fazli, Naeim Ahmadi, Aidin Khajei, Shahram Radmehr, Yashar Karimi, and Hamideh Farajzadeh each to 6 months in prison.
Alireza Abdollahi, Behboud Gholizadeh and Akbar Azad are also sentenced to 6 months of suspended imprisonment for 5 years.
Hassan Rahimi is acquitted after 4 months of solitary confinement.
These people were charged with membership in a party by the name of “Gamouh” and acting against national security.They spent 8 months in prison, 5 months of which was in solitary confinement.
Yourosh Mehrali Biglou, Latif Hosseini and Zahra Farajzadeh, other Azeri political activists, will be tried in the next days.

Saturday the Ministry of Information in Iran said that it dismantled a complete espionage and sabotage network, spying for CIA.
More then 30 people were arrested.

The lawyer to the American prisoners held in Iran, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that following the absence of Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal at their court trial rumours about their hunger strike are serious.
According to him there is no legal reason why they couldn't be brought in court. Since their last trial a couple of months ago, the Swiss Consulate, the families, and their lawyer have not had any news about them.

The lawyers Fatemeh Tamimi, a member of Iranian Bar Association, and Mostafa Daneshjou, the lawyer for Gonabadi dervishes, have been arrested.
They both were transferred to an unknown location.

Childrens rightactivist and Bahai Saman Ostevar who has been arrested March 2 in Kerman, is still in prison in Bam. He spent 48 days in solitary confinement and was put under horrific psychological pressure.
During this time, he was not able to see or contact anyone.
The judicial authorities refuse to tell what the charges are and to release him on bail.

The studentactivist Siamak Sohrabi at Sharif Polytechnic University, is sentenced by the revolutionary court to a 5 year suspended prisonterm on charges of planning gatherings and conspiring to act against national security.

Iran: rulings

A 4-year-old child that 10 days ago severely abused was admitted in Tehran to the Mofid Children’s hospital, has been released and delivered to his abusive father.
Upon arrival at the hospital,his body showed injuries from severe beatings from his parents who burned various parts of his body. At first he told the staff that his father has beaten him, but later he said that he did not know what happened.
The President of the Academic Association of Social Workers in Iran told ISNA that according to the law a father may refer to the Judiciary any time he wishes to collect his child, but even though the legal proceedings have allowed for the child to return to his father, must be known how the presiding Judge came to the decision that the father is qualified to care for the child.
According to him welfare workers have not conducted enough investigation into the case.

Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani is sentenced to death for apostacy. He has appealed this deathsentence. Apostacy is not a crime under Iranian law.

The husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh said that she told him that she heard that plans for transferring them to Gharchak, Varamin, have been canceled for now.
Earlier was said that all female political prisoners who are now in the Methadone Ward of Evinprison, will be transferred to Gharchak prison.
How, when and where this decision is taken is not known.
