Iran: more May 31, 2012

Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), writes that 10 prisoners on deathrow in Orumiehprison are on the vierge of execution. Seven of these prisoners are convicted for drug related offenses and have been transferred from ward 15 to the quarantine ward on May 30.
Their names are:Nahad Nuraldini, Sayyad Ahmadpour, Safar Pakizehrou, Haji Pajouhesh, Allahverdi Ahmadpour, Abdolhamid Moradi, Khosro Darvishi.
Three other men were also transferred to the quarantine ward.
Their names are: Omran Gilani, Manouchehr Davoudi and Hashem Jahangirzadeh. They were previously harshly beaten by the special guard forces in the prison on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, and were reportedly kept in solitary confinement in handcuffs and shackles.

Zahra Khodabakhsh daughter of Shargh newspaper’s financial investor has been arrested. According to Kaleme she has been brought to Evinprison.
Her father, Ali Khodabakhsh, invested in a number of reformist publications and  has been arrested in December 2010 and sentenced to one year in prison and a 3,000,000 Rial fine.

Website Kaleme reports that 3 students were arrested at the university of Isfahan. Erfan Mohammad, Mohammad Moradi and Mojtaba Karimi were last week arrested in connection with their involvement in the distribution of Kebrit. University officials claim the publication is banned and that its distribution is in violation of the law.

Iran condemned Kuwait for sentencing four men, two Iranians, one Kuwaiti and one stateless man, to life in prison on charges of spying.
Initially the men were sentenced to death but this verdict was on May 28th reduced to life in prison.At the time of their arrest in May 2010 they worked for the army in Kuwait.

New proof is found which links Iran to murderplots. Last year Azerbaijani authorities rounded up nearly two dozen people in waves of arrests till early this year.All these people could be linked to Iran. Precisely who ordered the hits, and why, was never conclusively determined.

Recently a more dangerous computerworm has been discovered then Stuxnet.The worm is named Flame and is capable of recording voice and IM conversations performed on a specific system, manipulate wireless communications via Bluetooth and capture computer screen shots.
The worm is mainly spreaded in Iran and has so far infected computer systems in nations around the Middle East, Europe and North America.

ISNA reports that next spring Iran can take four zero's of its currency and rename it. The Central Bank advised the Iranian parliament. The name Rial will also be changed. The Bank proposed the names Daric, a name used during the Achaemenid dynasty, Noor or Toman.

The writer and translator Manijeh Najm Eraghi was Sunday arrested to serve a prisonsentence from a year.
August 2010 she was arrested  and later sentenced to one year in prison for membership of Iranian Writers’ Association, mailing of announcements and gathering for the assassinated writers Mohammad Mokhtari and Mohammad Jaffar Pouyandeh.
May 21 another member of Iranian Writers Association, Fariborz Rais Dana was arrested. Dana was also sentenced to one year in jail for membership in the writers’ association and for giving interviews.

A senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards said that Iranian forces are operating in Syria as allies from Assad. He said this in an interview with ISNA, but they  subsequently removed it from its website.
The Syrian army last week killed in the city of Houla, Syria 108 people, 32 of them children.
He also said that without the presence of IRGC in Syria , the massacre of people would have happened on a much larger scale.
Sources say that this is the first time that an Iranian official openly admits the presence of Iranian forces in Syria.

Journalist,human rights activist and former writer for newspaper Khordad, Farshad Aswad has been arrested, when he was leaving the country for Malaysia.
Jaras writes that he had voiced concern about the possibility of being arrested the night before his scheduled departure from the country.
Aswad is a relative of Reza Khandan, the husband of imprisoned human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh.He was in the process of making a documentary about her.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said that Iranian judiciary should immediately provide medical care to Hossein Ronaghi Maleki , to avoid a new human tragedy. May 19 Maleki started a hungerstrike to protest the lack of medical aid.
The Campaign expressed its serious concern that Iranian intelligence and prison authorities are routinely denying proper medical care to prisoners of conscience, resulting in severe complications and even deaths.

The latest report from International Atomic Energy Agency says that Iranian nuclear activity is 27% at the Fordow enrichment plant near Qom. This is far beneath the 90% level needed to make the fissile core of nuclear weapons.. But it is above Iran’s highest-known enrichment grade of 20 per cent, the level from which uranium can quickly turned into weapons-grade material.
The report also says that Iran added 300 centrifuges in addition to 700 installed earlier.

Wednesday the Kurdistan Press Agency reported that Branch1 of the Revolutionary Court of Khoy convicted five Iranian Kurds to 46 years in prison for their alleged ties to Kurdish opposition groups.
The names of the five men, all residents of Maku in West Azerbaijan: Mostafa Armin, Mousa Hatefi, Saeed Derayat, Ali Marhamati and Vali Balkhanloo
The five were arrested one year ago. According to local reports, one of them, Vali Balkhanloo was tortured to death just days after his arrest.The news of his death has not yet been made public.

The Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre received an update on the condition of Mohammad Seddigh Kaboudvand who is on a hungerstrike since May 14 in ward 350 of Evin Prison. May 17 he broke of his hungerstrike following the promises of the judiciary and Evin prison authorities to consider his requests for leave to visit his ill son.
Kaboudvand is in prison since July 2007.He was convicted and sentenced to more than 10 years’ imprisonment for founding the Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan.

The vicepresident of International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and president of the Iranian League for the Defence of Human Rights (LDDHI), said that Iranian authorities have launched a new wave of repression against ethnic minorities, such as Baluchis, Arabs and Azeris.
They are acting in complete defiance of the recommendations made by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in its August 2010 concluding observations, where the Committee strongly criticised the denial of rights of the ‘Arab, Azeri, Baluchi, Kurdish communities and some communities of non-citizens’ in Iran and called on the authorities to take measures to protect them effectively.

May 22 were 3 people hanged in Adelabadprison in Shiraz.
Their names are "Z.R.", A.A." and "H.A.". They were convicted for keeping and carrying of 2 kilograms of heroin, 32 kilograms and 309 grams of heroin and 4 kilograms and 900 grams of crack respective.
Including these executions Iranian authorities executed since May 15 2012 58 people. 35 of these executions are confirmed by official Iranian sources, while 23 executions (16 in Yazd and 7 in Rasht) have been reported by unofficial sources

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that on May 21 in Rejai Shahr Prison in Karaj political prisoner Mansour Radpour, 41 has died in jail and that a preliminary examination points at cerebral hemorrhage as the cause of death. Five years ago he was arrested and charged with having sympathy for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
He was sentenced to three years in jail for “activities against national security through collaboration with the PMOI”. After that time was served, he was handed another five-year prison sentence.
HRANA reported also that he was foltered and in bad physical condition.

More then 100 people were arrested near the cities of Tabriz and Urmia at new mass protests for the drying out Lake Urmia .
Last year similar events took place in the same cities. Then too, dozens of Azerbaijani activists were arrested and punished.The area of Lake Urmia is about 6000 square kilometres. During bird migration the lake becomes their temporary haven. Due to prolonged drought what happens in the Urmia shallows, affects the flora and fauna of the surrounding region.

Iranian statemedia reported that on May 20 and 21 18 people were hanged in 4 different cities.
In Tehran were on May 21 14 people hanged. They all were convicted for drugstrafficking. Their names will be announced soon.
May 20 in Sanandaj were 2 people executed. Their names are "S.R." and "V.A.", they were convicted of rape and robbery.
In the prison of Sari, province Mazandaran is May 20 one prisoner hanged. The not named man was convicted of trafficking 50 kg of opium.
In Dizelabadprison in Kermanshah is May 20 Hiva Havas hanged. The report did not mention the delict, but it is known that Havas had previously been arrested in connection with the 2009 Iranian post-election protests. This report has not been announced by official Iranian sources.

Reporters without Borders calls on Iran to explain what happened to Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade, 2 Azerbaijan journalists who are missing since May 2nd. That day they arrived in Tabriz after a short visit to Tehran.

Hamid PourMohammadi, the ex-Head of Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran till last November when he was arrested because of the embezzlement of $3 billion, attended important governmental meetings of the Ahmadinejad administration. Fars reported that the men were hanged in prison and were named Farshid and Bagher, convicted for the rape and robbery of a mother and daughter in 2009.

Shahin Dadkhah, a former advisor to the Supreme National Security Council has been sentenced to 2 years plus a suspended five-year sentence for his alleged ties to a “hostile state.

By switching flags, companies and documents an Iranian oiltanker passed the international sanctions made to Syria. Documents obtained by the Financial Times, show that a vessel from the Islamic Republic International Shipping Lines, sailed from Syria to the Gulf of Oman and then Iran, using different flags and changing owners.
Evidence of the cooperation between the two countries comes as industry experts note a marked increase in the use of so-called ‘flags of convenience’ fluttering on Iranian-owned oil tankers.

An international humanrights organization reported on Friday that May 20 will a trial hold against six Ahwazi-Arabs from Khalafabad in Khuzestan province. The men are imprisoned a year ago and there are fears that they will not receive a fair trial and may be at risk of torture.
They were arrested in their houses in February and March 2011. At least four of them were denied access to a lawyer for at least eight months after arrest.
According to the reports of Amnesty International their names are Mohammad Ali Amouri, blogger, Rahman Asakereh, teacher, Hashem Sha’bani Amouri, teacher, Hadi Rashidi, teacher, Sayed Jaber Alboshoka and his younger brother Sayed Mokhtar Alboshoka.
