Iran: more May 22, 2012

Iranian statemedia reported that on May 20 and 21 18 people were hanged in 4 different cities.
In Tehran were on May 21 14 people hanged. They all were convicted for drugstrafficking. Their names will be announced soon.
May 20 in Sanandaj were 2 people executed. Their names are "S.R." and "V.A.", they were convicted of rape and robbery.
In the prison of Sari, province Mazandaran is May 20 one prisoner hanged. The not named man was convicted of trafficking 50 kg of opium.
In Dizelabadprison in Kermanshah is May 20 Hiva Havas hanged. The report did not mention the delict, but it is known that Havas had previously been arrested in connection with the 2009 Iranian post-election protests. This report has not been announced by official Iranian sources.

Reporters without Borders calls on Iran to explain what happened to Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade, 2 Azerbaijan journalists who are missing since May 2nd. That day they arrived in Tabriz after a short visit to Tehran.
According to the editor of Azerbaijani newspaper 525, Rashad Majid they were kidnapped by eight men in civilian dress when their bus arrived in the city.
Other journalists are already being held hostage in the diplomatic stand-off between Iran and Azerbaijan.There is increasing tension between Iran and its neighbour over territorial disputes and geostrategic interests linked to the routing of major oil and gas pipelines.
Iran holds Azeri journalist Said Matinpour hostage while Azerbaijan Ramin Bayramov, the editor of website Islamazeri.az and Anar Bayramli, a correspondent for various Iranian media continius to hold. Ramil Dadashov, a driver of Iran’s Sahar TV who was arrested along with Bayramli, has been released on May 16.

Iran is pressuring Azerbaijan to cut ties with Western countries and Israel.Iran is behind a “serious anti-Azerbaijan” campaign, trying to create a rift between the country and its allies before the Eurovision Song Contest.Azeri officials try to ease Iranian concerns about plans to buy Israeli drones and missile-defense systems.The magazine Foreign Policy wrote in March that the Caspian Sea country which shares a 756-kilometer border with Iran,had offered some of its airports to Israel for possible air strikes against Iran.Both Azerbaijan and Israel have rejected the report.

Hamid PourMohammadi, the ex-Head of Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran till last November when he was arrested because of the embezzlement of $3 billion, attended important governmental meetings of the Ahmadinejad administration. Mehrnews reported on Sunday that he attended topmeetings   while he was immediately dismissed from his position at the Central Bank after his arrest, so it is not clear in what capacity he is attending government meetings.
