Iran: promises and corruption

In the city of Kashan, Isfahan province, a large number of workers from the spinning, weaving, velvet and silk factories blocked the streets to protest against receiving no payments for many months.
Approximately 500 workers blocked the streets and said that all efforts of the city council and of the province of Esfahan has come to no results.One of the workers said that the government has shown lack of competence in dealing with corrupt management and that 15 months of salaries for 3500 workers from these various textile factories have not been paid.




February 5, started in the city of Khorramabad, Lorestan province, more then 1000 workers from Pars Leon factory a hungerstrike to protest the lack of management and neglectance for this by provincial officials.
ILNA reported that unpaid salaries and benefits for 2 months, and the non-payment of the elderly workers’ retirement package and severance pay were among many reasons for the strike.




February 6, 350 workers from the Pousheeneh-Baaft factory in Ghazvin, Qazvin province, spent the night in front of the presidential offices. ILNA reported that this happened as a protest to not fullfillment of the presidential promises to resolve the problems and help for the workers to resume work.
Workers representative Eid-Ali Karimi also told that the workers struggle for an entire year now against mis-management and corruption under privatization.
When the president visited Ghazvin he made a promise to resolve the situation.
