Iran: gulf

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL)has published four historical maps, proving the authenticy of the name Persian Gulf.
The maps appear in the calendar of the Iranian New Year.
The first map is made in the 2nd century by Greek Claudius Ptolemaeus.
The second map is made by Abu-Ishaq Ibrahim bin Mohammad Estakhri in 957, the third map by Petrus Bertius in 1610 and the last map by British hydrographer John Thornton in 1699.
For quite a time now there is a "name-war" in the media between the names Persian Gulf and Arabian Gulf.
