Iran: actions

Ronak Safazadeh, a member of the One Million Signatures Campaign was arrested at her home in Sanandaj, Kurdistand on Tuesday October 9, 2007.
There is no information on the whereabouts of Ms. Safazadeh since her arrest and her family has not been able to contact her or obtain additional information about the charges against her.


The daily Etemad Melli wrote that the attorney for women’s activities Shadi Sadr, Masoumeh Zia and Mahboube Abbas-Gholizadeh has said: “The cases of all of my clients are in limbo in various branches of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and I don’t expect a resolution in the near future.”



Fakhteh Samadi, a former law student, had to end her studies after her marriage failed. She was working as a carer for an 80-year-old man who allegedly held her captive and tried to rape her several times.Furthermore she claims to have suffered from depression and was deprived of medicines prescribed by her 'jailer'.
After that much attempts to rape her, she hit his head with a metal object killing him.
According to medical experts who visited her in prison, she was in a state of panic and reacted unconsciously.
The court sentenced her to death and she may be executed within days.
The case of Fakhteh is the subject of a documentary by Iranian director Mahvash Sheikholeslami.
