Each Iranian pilgrim spends 10 to 15 dollars on fruit and between 700,000 and 800,000 Iranian pilgrims visit Saudi Arabia for approximately a two-week stay each year. The Ministry will study the market for exporting fruit such as apples, tangerines, kiwi and oranges.
If the proposal by Saudi Arabia wins state support in Iran, exporters might also find a new market for various products such as meat and rice.
