Iran: to halt

At the UN General Assembly (UNGA) 62nd session in October 2007, a resolution calling for a global moratorium on executions will be introduced as a step towards the abolition of the death penalty.
Amnesty International is mobilising support for the resolution, along with the World Coalition against the Death Penalty (WCADP) and other non-governmental organizations.
The WCADP is running a global petition, based on the 2000 UN petition, that petition has gathered 5 million signatures so far.

The annual World Day against the Death Penalty is held on 10 October; the slogan this year is "Stop the Death Penalty: the World Decides".


NCRi reports that the strike of workers in Haft Tapeh (Saba atlal) Sugar Cane Company sugarfactory in Shoush, Khuzestan province, is ended on October 4 by the State Security Forces (SSF) special units.
They wounded more than ten protesters and a number of participants have been arrested.




IRNA reported that 17 people were killed and 21 injured when a truck <collided with a bus.
The accident happened on a road leading to the village of Ab-Ali
50 kilometres northeast of Tehran.
The truck veered out of its lane due to driver fatigue
