Iran: environmental

IRNA reported that in the city of Rezwanshahr a man is hanged.
He was sentenced to death for a murder he committed 19 years ago. (1989).



The European Union has expressed her concern about the imminent execution of Behnoud Shojaee who is sentenced to death for stabbing another boy with a piece of glass during a fight when he was only 17.
The execution is scheduled for tomorrow, May 7.
The EU also urges Iran to comply with international laws and holding the execution.



The airpollution in Tehran was in the month of Favardin (March 20 to April 19), the worst compared to the past seven years.
According to the deputy head of Tehran’s Air Quality Control Company, the main cause of air pollution were atmospheric conditions and abundance of dust particles.
Particulate matter with a diameter of less than 10 micrometers, as it adversely affects the respiratory system, is the main index of air pollution and is a health risk.



Finances up to almost 7 million euro have been allocated to South Khorasan province to counter the effects of drought.
Various parts of Iran are facing acute water shortage in the current Iranian calendaryear.
The Iranian government has allocated more then 174 million euro to compensate for the losses resulting from drought across the county, of which 125 million euro have been made available to the provinces in the first phase.
The provincial governor of South Khorasan also said that the province’s annual demand for water stands at 1.4 million cubic meters. He called for promoting greenhouse cultivation, mechanized farming and irrigation systems.
