Iran: disturbance

August 26 Behnam Zare, was hanged in the prison of Shiraz.
He was convicted of a murder allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.
Neither his lawyer, nor his family were informed that the execution was about to happen.



Human Rights Watch urged the Iranian judiciary to immediately commute the sentences of more than 130 other prisoners facing death for crimes committed while children.
Iran executed 6 minor offenders this year.



According to daily Kargozaran the activist Mostafa Alavi is sentenced to 15 years in prison.
No further details about his charges or the trial were given.
According to some websites Alavi is a doctor and researcher who ran a non-governmental organisation named “Iranian Elite Association” which sought to boost interaction between educated Iranians and global academic centres.
Reports say detained since March 2007 and initially stood trial in January 2008, when he was sentenced to two years in prison for “founding an illegal group.”



Gholamreza Gholamhosseini activist and member of the Tehran Busdrivers Association has been detained more than two months in Section 240 of Evin prison.
He was arrested June 2007 during a ceremony to celebrate women day that was organized by the Tehran municipality and bus services in a sport stadium.
After his arrest he was taken to the prosecutor’s office where charges against him were issued and was transferred to Evin prison.
Based on court-issued orders, he is being kept in an isolated cell in Section 240 of Evin prison.
The charges include disturbing the peace and attempts to undermine national security.
