Iran: opinion

The appeal court in Tehran sentenced Kurdish human rights activist Mohammad Sadegh Kabovand to 11 years in prison.
Kabouvand is found guilty of acting against national security and propagating against the ruling Islamic establishment.
Kabouvand is founder of Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan.
In Iran, sentences of more than 10 years in prison cannot be the subject of appeals.
The lawyer of Kabouvand plans to appeal to Iran's judiciary chief, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi.
Kabouvand is imprisoned since July 2007 in Evin prison, since September his wife is not been allowed to visit him.


October 25th 10 journalists who were about to leave for the United States to cover the 4 November presidential election were detained at Tehran international airport.
Their passports were confiscated and they were ordered to report to the ministry of intelligence.

According to the daily Quds a father strangled his 14-year-old daughter in Shiraz for "suspicious behavior".
In his confession he said that he suspected his daughter from having a relationship with a man, and that he killed her with her headscarf to save the family's honor.
He is not going to be charged with murder, since according to the Iranian law, if a father or grandfather (on father´s side) kill his child or grandchild, he will not be charged and punished for murder.


The newspaper Today AZ writes that Abbas Lisani, one of the leaders of movement for rights of Iranian Azerbaijanis was released in Iran from prison.
He was imprisoned for 30 months for organizing the March to the Babek fortress in 2006.





According to Iranian Human Rights Activists is Wednesday, October 28, Abdolreza Rajabi, 46, killed under suspicious circumstances in Gohardasht prison.
Rajabi was a member of People's Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI) and eight years ago sentenced to death.
His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 2006.
A statement from the mojahedin states he is foltered to death.
They ask the UN Secretary General and UN High Commissioner of Human Rights (UNHCHR) to investigate the case.

Children are being hanged to death.
