Iran: plans

Dr. Mehdi Zakerian is released around October 20th.
He has since returned to his post as an assistant professor at Islamic Azad University in Tehran, from which he was dismissed in September 2007, without explanation.



Former president Khatami says the country is in need of "reform" but the current political atmosphere is not ripe to implement such plans.
He also said that preparing plans and making arrangements for change is not a difficult task


A member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission,said that Iran considers a international diplomatic solution to the issue the better option, but the military approach is among the options to release the hijacked vessel.
In november Somalian pirates hijacked the Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship Delight, which was chartered by an Iranian company, along with its 25 crewmembers in the Gulf of Aden.


Two policeofficers are killed when were taking a 'criminal' from Sardasht to Mahabad. The prisoner was convicted for selling alcohol and was transported to a court in Mahabad.
Consuming alcohol is prohibited in Iran.
After killing the policemen they broke the convict free.
The police launched a search operation.



In Tehran two Afghan brothers and an Iranian were killed by carbon monoxide at work.
The Afghans, 17 and 18 years old were asphyxiated because they had a faulty cooker and the 20-year-old Iranian died at the fastfood he worked.
The emergency officers warned against the use of substandard heaters as the winter season approaches.

In Iran there are childoffenders, still on death row.
