The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said January 5 that Shirin Ebadi is safe there is no need for any international concern over her well-being.
He said this referring to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who on Saturday urged Tehran to secure Ebadi's safety. He confirmed the protest gathering in front of Ebadi's house but said there have been several demonstrations in Tehran in connection with the Gaza crisis.
Furthermore he said that "it was no good idea from Ebadi to refer to foreign sources for complaining about her own country".
About not having the necessary permit for her human rightsgroup he said that there is a biased approach towards Ebadi but she should follow the laws and obtain a license for the centre and pay the relevant taxes.
He added that she has been asked in recent years to obtain the necessary permit but she has so far refrained from doing so.

The number of people stranded on Iran's Kish Island with visumtroubles has doubled during the holiday season.
The introduction of the new UAE visa rule, has been causing concern especially for Filipino people and the island.
According to this rule visa-change tourists have to contact the Residency Permit Office of the Immigration Department in Kish for an extension.
Each day an average of 70 people arrive and hotels on the island have no accomodation for so many people.
The Philippine Consul General says he is contemplating on issuing a travel advisory to prevent Filipinos from going to Iran or Oman until the situation returns to normal. He would also recommend to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila to issue a similar travel advisory so that people will no longer be allowed leaving the country for Dubai on visit visas.
