Iran: addition


ISCA reported that last week in Adelabad prison in Shiraz a man was hanged.
The man, Amir Kh.,24 was convicted for the murder on a girl from a village near Shiraz.

The sentence for womans rights activist Parvin Ardelan is reduced by the appeals court to one year suspended for the period of three years.
Initially she was sentenced to two years suspended in prison for a period of three years on the charges gathering and collusion intent on disrupting national security, disruption of public order, and refusal to obey the orders of the police.
In appeal she was acquitted of the first charge, but the court found her guilty of the two other charges.

Women’s rights activist Ronak Safazadeh is sentenced to 6 years in prison.
She was acquitted from the charge "enmity with god", but found guilty of the membership of "PEJAK"and in reference to Article 499 of the Penal Code she was sentenced to 5 years mandatory prison sentence and for spreading of propaganda against the state and in favor of Pejak she was sentenced to one year mandatory prison sentence. The prisonterm will be served in the city where the crime was committed, meaning Sanandaj.
Her lawyer will object to the sentence.

The Financial Times writes that at the moment Iran is the largest importer of wheat in the world. The US department of Agriculture says Iran will purchase 8.5 million tons of wheat in the 2008-09 crop year, which ends in June.
Forced by the drought of 2008 Iran had to set aside her goal of self-sufficiency.
The total cost of Iran’s wheat imports is estimated at between 2 and 2.5 billion dollars.
