Mehrnews reports that MP Hamid-Reza Katouzian said that a number of prisoners who were arrested in the post-election unrest died due to the beatings they received at the Kahrizak detention center.
He told reporters that no information about the incident has been provided to the parliament and the culprits should be punished.
Kahrizak prison has been closed by Ali Khamenei last week for "not meeting the standards".
Katouzian also says that national Police Chief Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqadam, is direct responsible. The police commander receives reports regularly and on a daily basis.
When asked, the policecommander said that a number of detainees who were released from the detention center and died soon afterwards, did die of a disease.
Sunday he told some reporters that it is not clear yet whether the prisoners caught the disease inside or outside the prison.
He said that 3 policemen who beat detainees have been jailed as well.
Another MP, Ali Motahhari has called for the national police to identify by name the police officers who violated the law and emphasized that the issue should be dealt with in a transparent manner.
