Iran: count

The trial against 5 young Bahais,Haleh Hooshmandi, Afshin Ahsanian, Vahdat Daana, Farham Masoomi en Kayvan Karami. will take place November 9th.
They were arrested in the beginning of the Persian calendar year on accusation of acting against state security by propagating the Baha’i faith, organizing banned groups and having ties to foreign elements.
A few of the defendants were among the group of 52 young Baha’is arrested in 2005.

Majid Hassan-Zadeh., a student who worked for Mousavi’s campaign is sentenced to 3 year in prison.
Hassan-Zadeh was arrested shortly after the election, and tried without legal representation.
He claims that his refusal to play a role in the show trials has led to his heavy sentence.
He has objected to the verdict.

Hesam Tarmasi, 17 is convicted by district 26 of the Revolutionary Court to 2 years and 4 months in prison.
He has been accused of participating in post election protests.
He was tried without having access to a lawyer.

The head of Irans Tobacco Company says there are 12 million smokers in Iran.
This year the consumption of cigarettes has been recorded as 61.2 billion cigarettes, a 1.2 percent increase compared to the figures of last year.
Iran's Tobacco Company's latest figure shows tobacco turnover reached 3 billion dollars.
Around 30 percent of the turnover is authorized by the Iran's Tobacco Company and the rest is carried out by smugglers and foreign companies.
