Iran: attack

This morning at least 38 people have been killed and 50 others have been wounded in a suicide bombattack at the Imam Hussein Mosque in the city of Chahbahar, in Sistan-Baluchestan Province near the border with Pakistan.
Two bombs exploded at a Ashura commemoration.
IRNA reported that one of the attackers was arrested, the other died when his vest exploded.

Journalist Kouhyar Goodarzi is released after having served out his one year sentence in Rejaishahr Prison in Karaj.
Last year December he was arrested.
While in prison, he was awarded the 2010 John Aubuchon prize for Freedom of the Press by the US National Press Club.

Imprisoned journalist Issa Saharkhiz accuses the Supreme Leader of cruelty and impiety in a letter he wrote to the Prosecutor of Tehran, Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi.
In this letter he writes that in Iran whoever criticizes the leader is presented as a subversive element.
Dowlatabadi said in a statement that the three journalists Saharkhiz, Massoud Bastani and Ahmad Zeidabadi are subversive and for that reason will not be granted leave from prison.

Human Rights Watch reports about discrimination and violence against sexual minorities in Iran.


Studentactivist Arash Sadeghi was interrogated on December 7th and has broken a rib as a result.
He was interrogated for writing a letter. He has not received any medical attention.
To protest this, he has gone into a hungerstrike.

The humanrightsactivist and blogger Ali Kalaei has been sentenced by branch 26 of the revolutionary court to 6 years in prison.He had previously been sentenced to one year of suspended imprisonment for a case in 2007.
