Iran: voice and silence

Imprisoned writer and lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh received the Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award 2011 .
Sotoudeh was arredted September 4th, 2010 and is sentenced to 11 years in jail for her outspoken advocacy in defense of her clients arrested after the June 2009 elections and interviews she gave to human rights organizations.

In an interview with Roozonline told the father of Behnoud Ramezani that he will pursue the complaint with the judiciary until the individuals responsible for his son’s murder have been identified and put on trial.
Ramezani died March 17 2011, after being beaten by motorcycleagents, resulting in fractures in his hand, foot, and neck, and the rupture of one his testes.
According to the head of security for Tehran he lost his life as a result of a hand grenade detonating in his pant pocket, eyewitnesses rejected this.

They say that the Central Bank published 2 years ago gross domestical product and that the unemployment rate for the last time was updated 12 months ago.

The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran has been attacked with molotovcocktails. Fars reported that these were thrown by Basij and that security agents were present, but did not act.
Some protestors tried to raise Hezbollah and Lebanese flags on the embassy building, but this was prevented by security agents.
