Iran: violations

Friday, the UN stated in a report that restricting the flow of information on the Internet is a violation of human rights and international law.
France and the UK are called to revise their legislations aimed at cracking down on copyright infringement on the Internet.
According to UN Special Rapporteur, cutting off access to the Internet can never be justified, including on public safety or national security grounds.
Impeding this right is a violation of Article 19 paragraph 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The rapporteur published this rapport on June 1st, the same day that the Internet Monitoring Agency reported that two thirds of the population in Syria have suddenly lost access to the Internet.
During the past two years, Iran has many times blocked or limited access to the Internet in order to stop the disclosure of events taking place in the country.
Meanwhile the army commandant Pourdastan told that the Iranian Army is prepared to be present in cyberspace to counter any possible cyber attacks.
