Iran: contrast December 24th 2012



The speaker for the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani sent a letter of congratulation to the heads of the legislatures of Christian countries of the world and his Christian countrymen.
In his letter he said that the international community should take appropriate legal measures against "extremists who insult the prophets".

Iranian churchleaders urged prayers for Christians in Iran amid concerns authorities will raid more house churches and detain believers over the Christmas and Western New Year period.
The appeal came after a letter from detained Pastor Behnam Irani, 41, who activists say may not survive the remaining five years of his prison term. He was previously beaten by fellow inmates and guards of the Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj and also looses weight and has a bloodinfection.

ISNA reported on Sunday that statistics show that over the previous 7 months 92 people lost their lives due to alcoholpoisoning. This is an increase of over 100 percent compared to last year.
Most deaths occurred in Eastern Azerbaijan province, 24 men and 1 woman. Kurdistan, Khorazan Razavi and Kermanshah are the provinces with the next highest numbers of deaths due to alcohol poisoning.
