At least two Iranian newssites and some websites reported that an Iranian armycommander in Syria has been killed by "zionists". Fars Newsagency, which is closely aligned with Iran's Revolutionary Guards says that Commander Haj Hassan Shateri was in charge of the Iranian delegation and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan and later in Lebanon. The report says that he was killed on February 12 outside Iran. He has been buried in Tehran.
Syrian Observatory for Human Right say that Syrian rebels ambushed his car on the road from Damascus to Beirut.

The head of Iranian Heritage and Tourism Studies says that lichen growing on the Tomb of Cyrus the Great causes increasing damage . The cement repairs carried out on the tomb are now causing the rocks to rapidly deteriorate.
The Tomb of Cyrus the Great, the founder of Achamenid Dynasty, underwent extensive restoration efforts in the last decade. The 2,500-year-old tomb, also referred to as Pasargad, is located in Fars Province.

USA joins calls to the Iranian authorities to lift the housearrest of Iranian oppositionleaders Mir Hossein Mousavi, his wife Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi. Mousavi and Karroubi were presidential candidates at the elections in 2009.
Two years ago they were put under house arrest and have not been charged with any crimes since.
