Iran: checkup

As of today all websites with Iran-related content will have to register with the Islamic Republic’s Internet vetting body of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, before web users inside the country can view them.

The new rule is in accordance with the decision by the government in November to restrict websites that had not registered with the ministry.
In this way, its easier for Iranian government to control and censor content.




Another South-bound train derailed on Friday between Bisheh and Sepid Dasht stations where another train had derailed last week, making it the fifth in a month.
Experts believe that apart from old tracks and carriages, technical services are also of poor quality.
Some 4,000 passengers travel by train from Ahwaz to Tehran and vice-versa daily.




Three former directors of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IR) along with three others accused of corruption were arrested on charges of bribery, nepotism and misuse of power.
An informed source told IRNA that three former IR directors, with the collaboration of a number of retired colleagues and relatives, had founded three private companies in the railroad sector and convinced other organizations to exclusively use the services of these companies.
As per rules stipulated in the third and fourth national development plans (2000-10), the government is obliged to delegate passenger and cargo transportation services to the private sector on an hire-purchase basis.
These ex-officials misused their status and bribing the IR staff.
The managing director of one such company confessed that the three companies took about 90 billion rials in loan for one contract with the IR and have not yet paid their debt. The director also gave 10 billion rials to the IR directors as bribe
