Iran: press or pressure

Monday, former nuclear negotiator Hossein Mousavian, was arrested.
A source in Tehran Public Prosecutor’s Office told Fars News Agency that economic issues are the cause of his detention and added that he will be released after posting the bail.


However, IranFokus and other media report that Fars News Agency told that he was arrested on spying charges.
Also the agency said that his release is unlikely.
His arrest precedes a scheduled meeting of Iran's Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the international conference on Iraq in Egypt.



At least five people are arrested for involvement in publishing articles seen as insulting to Islam.
The articles appeared reportedly in four student publications at a prominent Tehran university and led to huge protests by hardline religious students, the Basij.
Members of the reformist student movement that run the papers denied any involvement,



Amnesty International condemns the arrest of Kurdish teacher and poet Hamid Sa’edi on April 22.
The arrest was made by plain clothed agents in Sanandaj and although the reason is not known, it is feared that Hamid Sa’edi may have been detained in connection to his participation in protest actions held by teachers.



In Iran there are childoffenders, still on death row.
