Iran: fire

3000 workers from the Haft Tapeh (Saba atlal) Sugar Cane Company held demonstrations outside the Khuzestan provincial governor's office in Shoush city (Susa) Saturday demanding:
- the payment of all salaries in arrears
- an end to the sale of foreign sugar on the Iranian market
- the right to labour representation
- a rise in salaries to reflect the rising cost of living
- right for workers to participate in the election of workers' representatives
- retirement of those workers who have reached retirement age
- provision of adequate safety equipment
- dismissing the company's board of directors
- ending threats to workers.
Since beginning last year the workers demonstrate, up till now without results.
The Iranian government is dispatching security forces to the area to try to stop the demonstrations.

Over 10,000 hectares of oak forests were destroyed by fires in the past months in the province Kurdestan.
The daily ’Hamshahri’ wrote that the director general of provincial Natural Resources Department warned that if the current trend continues, no wooded areas would remain in the province.
210 of the fires were originated in Iraq, but officials failed to control the blazes.
Kurdestan province has over 120,000 hectares of forests covered mostly with oaks.
