Iran: developed


The daily Emrooz reported that an unnamed man is hanged in the city of Yazd.
Because of the new decree, he was not hanged in public, but behind closed doors.
The reason was not named.

Two Kurdish students have been arrested in Iran for unknown reasons.
Jamshid Bahrami and Salam Nabati are arrested by agents belonging to Iran's Intelligence Ministry in Mariwan.
The number of arrested Kurdish students in Iran are now 11.


Iran stopped shipment of natural gas to Turkey, the second time in two months because of a cold snap.
According to Turkish Minister of Energy, such cuts would not occur if a proposed new gas pipeline were constructed between the two countries.



Iranian ambassador in Spain has compared chopping off the hands of thieves to a "surgeon amputating a limb to prevent the spread of gangrene".
In a defence of Iran's implementation of Islamic law, the ambassador said that those monitoring human rights, should be taken taken into account "the traditions,religion and economic development" of the country.
He also said that the death penalty was necessary "to preserve the health of society as a whole".
He made this remarks during a speech in Madrid.
