Iran: old and ancient

Tehran Times announces celebration at March 18 of Chaharshanbeh-Suri in Chitgar Park in Tehran.
Every year is this "fire-festival" held on the last Tuesday of the Iranian calendar year.
It was originally a Zoroastrian tradition.
The event will be organized by Tasvirgaran Institute, which aims to revive Persian traditional celebrations which are in danger of dying out.
During the evening there will be several programs of fireworks, comedy shows and contests in which artists and sportsmen will be participating.
Also there will be a number of jugs with ashes, salt and coins which are given to visitors so that they can carry out the ancient ritual of pouring ashes, salt and coins over the roof of their house, to get rid of bad luck.
With all this they hope to avoid the disorders which yearly happen.
Tasvirgaran Institute is an NGO (non governmental organization) affiliated to Iran’s National Youth Institute .
