Iran: teachers

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale jolted 04:45 local time Thursday (0015 GMT), the city of Boroujerd Lorestan province.
At least 100 people got wounded.
The Head of the Natural Disasters Headquarters of Lorestan province said that 70 people in the city and 30 people outside the city were wounded.
The eartquake caused panic among residents of Boroujerd.


17 Iranian students were hospitalized after going on a hunger strike for a week to protest strict rules at a Sahand Technology university in the city of Tabriz.
The daile Etemad reported that the students protested against "restrictions at the university, an increased number of disciplinary decrees and student union issues.
A protestor stated that it is pitiful that the university head, after more than 80 hours of hunger striking and the admission of 17 people to hospital, still does not take responsibility for the insults and mistakes of his deputies.

Global Voices Online says that Aflatoon-Irani writes (Fa) that the director of Sahand University in Tabriz , finally accepted the most of students' requests.
One of the requests was the end of “gender apartheid”.



Iran celebrates today National Teacher's day. All around the world Teachers Day is celebrated on different dates. On this day people give flowers to teachers, to thank them.
In Iran is Teachers Day also to commemorate Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari, scholar, professor and politician, who got murdered May 1979.
