Iran: pause

In Kazeroun, Fars province is a man hanged and after a few minutes brought to hospital .
The man was sentenced to death for murder but the victims family pardoned him so the hanging was stopped.



An earthquake measuring 5.6 on Richterscale struck Dargahan on Qeshm island.
Five people got wounded and houses in the villages Zainabieh and Koohi got demolished.
The eathquake occurred Sunday, 17.06 local time.



Sunday Iranian students held a protest at Tehran university for more democracy and they denounced president Ahmadinejads policies.
The protest was organized by the radical pro-reform Office to Consolidate Unity (OCU) student group to mark National Student Day.
AFP wrote that OCU-member Mehdi Arabshahi told them that there were thousands of students from different universities in Iran and there was tough control.
Farsnewsagency wrote that only 150 demonstrators took part in the protest who chanted extreme slogans and broke the windows of the university's security office by throwing rocks.



An Iranian court has sentenced to jail and lashes 16 former Central Bank staff.
The stateradio reported that bribes to $3,5 million, as well as gold and foreign currency were taken.
The radio report said those accused received sentences of 10 years in prison, lashes, and fines , without making clear whether all 16 were handed the same punishment.



Iran plans to construct seven new oil refineries at a cost of $27 billion by 2013.
When these seven refineries are inaugurated, the production capacity of the country in gasoline and gas-oil will increase by 190 and 180 million liters per day respectively.
The aim is to increase Irans refining capacity in an attempt to cut gasoline imports.
