The female political prisoner Shirin Alam-Hoei (Ronahi Rokan), is 10 January sentenced to a lifelong prisonterm for moharebe. She was arrested 28 May 2008 in Makoo (West Azerbaijan) and charged with Moharebeh for ties with opposition groups and military actions.

Saftar Moradi, replacement officer of the Rajaie Shahr Prison in Karaj, has resigned in protest to the systematic abuse and torture of prisoners in Rajaie Shahr prison.
Moradi, who has studied law had previously consistently protested the abuse of prisoners in this prison and had sought to reform the prison.
Rajaie Shahr prison in Karaj (Gohardasht) has the reputation to be one of the worst prisons in Iran where every year tens of prisoners lose their lives or get injured because of abuse.

Reformist ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Khalaji, 61, an ally of ayatolla Sanei, is Wednesday in his house in Qom arrested by plain clothed agents. All papers of familymembers were taken and they are not allowed to travel.
He is the father from Mehdi Khalaji, an Iran expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The Washington Instituut is one of the 60 names on the list of banned institutes.
