Iran: circumstance

An earthquake of 5.7 on Richterscale occurred Friday near the city of Torbat-e Heydariyeh in Razavi Khorasan province. At least 110 people got injured.
Saturday an earthquake of 5.8 on Richterscale jolted Kerman province.
At this moment it is not known if people are injured.

Payman Karimi, gearresteerd during Ashura protests in Tehran.
Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad, political prisoner arrested in relation to his follow-up activities on deaths and torture in Kahrizak prison and a member of Mehdi Karroubi’s election campaign. He received 74 lashes and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Amnesty International said in a statement on July 30 that Iran must release the three American hikers immediately. Shane Michael Bauer, Joshua Felix Fattal and Sarah Emily Shourd are imprisoned for over a year without charges..
Also American president Obama urged Iran to release the three hitchhikers immediately.

Iranian will engage all bases for a massive, weeklong drill.
The drill is named Fada'eyan-e Harreem-e Vellayat (Devotees to the Sanctity of Religious Leadership) and among other air vehicles, 43 warplanes, including F-4, F-5, F-7 and Sukhoi Su-24 fighters, and unmanned airvehicles (UAVs) take part.

July 29 is in the prison of Qazvin a man hanged.
The man, Yousef Khamseh (35) was convicted for rape and robbery.

Mohammad Reza Jalaeipour, spokesman of Mowj-e Sevom (campaign of young supporters of Khatami and Mousavi during the election), who was transferred to Mashhad on July 26 after spending 40 days in Evin solitary cells, met with his wifes parents in prison.
Jalaeipour, a student at Oxford university in England was once arrested already in June 2009 at Khomeini Airport. In september 2009 he was released and acquitted of all charges.
June 14, 2010 he was arrested again.

Iran: Question

There still is no information about the whereabouts of Reza Shahabi, a member of the board of directors of Vahed Bus Workers Syndicate who was arrested June 12.
Since then he was allowed to have 3 phoneconversations with his family, the last one was in the beginning of July.
The Tehran and Suburbs Vahed Bus Workers Syndicate condemns the arrest and demands his immediate release.

Amnesty International made a statement urging Iranian authorities to stop the harassment of humanrightslawyer Mohammad Mostafaei whose whereabouts have been unknown since shortly after he was released from questioning by judicial officials last Saturday.
His wife and brother in law were arrested later that evening.
Mostafaei is defence lawyer for Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani,the woman who was sentenced to death by stoning and of many juvenile offenders.

Human Rights Watch asks in a statement that the Iranian Judiciary should provide urgent medical care to Kurdish humanrightslawyer Mohammad Sadigh Kaboudvand and free him. He is serving a prisonsentence from 11 years.
July 15 Kabouvand suffered what may have been a stroke and he has been experiencing severe neurological problems.
Kaboudvand is one of dozens Kurdisch dissidents who are imprisoned in Iran.
Currently 16 Kurds are sentenced to death: Zeynab Jalalian, Rostam Arkia, Hossein Khezri, Anvar Rostami, Mohammad Amin Abdolahi, Ghader Mohammadzadeh, Habibollah Latifi, Sherko Moarefi, Mostafa Salimi, Hassan Tali, Iraj Mohammadi, Rashid Akhkandi, Mohammad Amin Agoushi, Ahmad Pouladkhani, Sayed Sami Hosseini, and Sayed Jamal Mohammadi.

July 17 womanrightsctivist and member of the One Million Signatures Campaign Mahboubeh Karami was transferred to the prisonhospital of Evinprison to undergo a scheduled septoplasty surgery.
Karami cancelled the surgery to demonstrate against restrictions imposed on her by prison officials.
Karami suffers from respitory problems and depression.

According to the Iranian interior minister were 9 people arrested in connection with the Zahedan terrorist attack, which left 27 people dead.
Two of them are indicted and 7 others are suspected of aiding the terroristst.
The minister said that measures are taken against terrorism.

July 26 three people were hanged in the Karoun prison of Ahvaz.
The men, A. A. convicted for keeping of 80 grams of crack, S. Z. convicted for keeping of 335 grams of heroin and S. M. for keeping of 43 grams of heroin.

After five weeks detention is the Christian Alireza Seyedi released on bail from prison.
June 18 were Fatemeh Tork-Kajouri, Mehdi Karbalaei-Ali, Afshin Vafadaran and Alireza Seyedi, arrested in the house of Behrouz Sadegh-Khanajani.
Alle were released on bail, only from Behrouz Sadegh-Khanajani, who was arrested June 16th, is no information available.

Mohsen Jaldiyani a Kurdish teacher from Oshnaviyeh ( West Azarbaijan ) and head of the litterature group “Teirizh” is sentenced to 6 years in prison and exile to Tabas, province Yazd.
He was arrested in January and spent 6 months in Arak and Evinprison.
On July 18 Hanieh Farshi Shotorban was arrested by security agents in her home.
They searched the house and confiscated her computer, mobile telephone and personal belongings. She was first transferred to Tabriz Intelligence detention and later to Evin prison in Tehran.
She has been charged with “insulting the sacred and having ties with foreigners”, accusations which have been said to be related to her activities on Facebook.

Kurdish activist Rahim Resha was transferred to IRGC detention center in Urmia on the eight day of his hunger strike.. He was arrested on July 19 in his hoise in Mahabad and went in hungerstrike after one day.

The political prisoner Reza Joshan went in coma on the 6th day of his dry hungerstrike and was transferred to the hospital of Gohardasht prison of Karaj .
Reza Joshan, 25, was arrested on December 1, 2009 by intelligence agency officers at his home. He was transferred to solitary cells of IRGC and then to ward 4 after 2 months.

The 54e branch of the appeals court upheld the sentence of 7 ½ years in prison for Milad Asadi, a studentactivist and member of Daftar-e-Tahkim Vahdat (Office for Consolidating Unity).
The sentence for Bahareh Hedayat of 9½ years was also upheld.
The sentence of Amir Khosrow Dalirsani, a nationalist-religious activist, member of Committee against Arbitrary Arrests and seniormember of Jonbesh Mosalmanan Mobarez, to 4 years in prison is upheld in appeal's court.
The verdict of 1 year in prison and 74 lashes, and a ban from journalism to 15 years against journalist Peyman Aref is confirmed in appeal. Peyman Aref is currently on prison leave for treating his heart condition.
In appeal's court the sentence of Massoud Babapour, student at Garmsar Azad University to 2 years in prison, is upheld.
Rahim Rash, Vahed Dastmordi, Salah Ahmadi, and Himan Rostami , 4 residents of the villages Albelagh and Kouseh Keriz in Mahabad are arrested on July 21.
De reden is onbekend.
According to the statistics of HRHI 19 Kurdish residents and activists have been detained from June 22nd through July 22nd.
Morteza Golizadeh from Arak, member of Province of Markazi Jebheh Mosharkat(Islamic Iran Participation Front) is sentenced to 1 year in prison.

Iran: violated

The journalist Issa Saharkhiz attended his one and a half hour trial today that took place behind closed doors in branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court.
He read a written statement, translated here.
In his letter he writes among other things that if the role in tortures at the prisons of prosecutor Mohseni Ezhei, who personally has beaten prisoners, is not investigated, he will take his case to international courts.

In an interview she told that her brother told her he was violated.
Parvin Tajik told that her brother was unable to tell what he meant by “violated during a meeting which took place through a telephone booth in the presence of prison officials".
She wants to investigate the case, but her efforts to follow up on her brother’s case over the past ten days have been fruitless.

Duitsland has granted asylum to 50 dissident Iranians, who fled their country after the presidential election last year.
Most of the refugees are journalists and others who were critical of Iran's government.
Already 12 people have arrived in Gwrmany. Initially Germany wanted only 20 asylumseekers, but raised the number after criticism from Germany's Iranian expatriate community and the rights advocates Reporters Without Borders.

President Ahmadinejad said that Iran will send a man in space by 2019.
In 2009 Iran launched a homemade satellite and in Februar a Kavoshgar-3 rocket with a rat, turtle and worms on board.
Telecommunication Minister Reza Taghipoir said earlier this month Iran will launch another satellite: Rasad 1.

Over the world rallies are being held to save the life of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani in Tabriz.
She was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, but the sentence was put on hold following an international outcry.
However, the deathsentence remains in place. Earlier this month, Azerbaijan officials said the execution would be "temporarily halted".

Studentactivist Azita Mizban of Birjand University , member of Central Islamic Student Council of Birjand, and editor of Sokoot a studentpublication, committed suicide two days ago.
Her friends are not aware of the motives behind her act.
In recent years, a considerable number of students have committed suicide as a result of social pressures and educational conditions and problems.
The number of female students committing suicide is higher than male students. Reports of the Ministry of Advanced Education state that out of every 28 cases of student suicides in Iran, seven of the victims are male and 21 are female.

Iran: punishment

In the prison of the city of Hamedan were July 22 juli the hands of five persons amputated.
Fars newsagency reported that all five persons were convicted for robbery.
The local judiciary official said that average age of the five thieves on whom the hand amputation verdict was carried out was over 25 and they had committed major thefts. He added that normally the amputations are supposed to take place in public, but since "the enemies of islam" take advantage of this kind of punishments to present islam as a violator of the humanrights, amputations are not carried out in public.

According to RAHANAreporters are also more female political detainees confined in harsh conditions inside solitary cells and other wards of Evin prison.
The Dutch/Iranian Zahra Jabbari is one of those prisoners who has been detained in ward 209 of Evin prison since 27 December 2009.

Iran: sentences

Blogger and humanrightsactivist Hossein Ronaghi-Maleki who was in solitary confinement in ward 1A of IRGC in Evinprison, is in critical health.He suffers heart and kidneyproblems, but any medical help is him deprived.
He was detained on December 13, 2009 along with his brother Hassan Ronaghi- Maleki.His brother never involved in politics but was detained in order to put pressure on Hossein.
Hassan was tortured for a month and suffered neck injuries as a result of the tortures in prison.

Dr. Ali Asghar Jamali is sentenced to 3 years in prison. He was charged with insulting the Supreme Leader.He has also been banned from having a private office for 3 years.
In this case are also 15 other individuals convicted to 1 year in prison with 2 years suspended for distributing pamphlets of Worker-Communist Party of Iran.

Amnesty International and Reporters without Borders made a statement that one year after the disputed elections more than 100 political prisoners are still being held in Iranian jails in inhuman and degrading conditions.
The joint statement says that their most basic rights are being violated, starting with the right to adequate medical treatment.
They urge the Iranian authorities to provide adequate medical treatment as a matter of urgency to the following political prisoners:
Shiva Nazar Ahari, Masoud Bastani, Amir Khosro Dalirsani, Rahim Gholami, Kouhyar Goudarzi, Nader Karimi Jouni, Mansour Ossanlu, Mohammad Sadegh Kaboudvand, Masoud Lavassani, Mojtaba Lotfi, Mehdi Mahmoudian, Said Matinpour, Abolfazl Abedini, Nasr Hamed Rouhinejad, Issa Saharkhiz, Ali Saremi, Hengameh Shahidi, Behrouz Tavakkoli, Majid Tavakkoli, Behrouz Javid Tehrani, Ahmad Zaidabadi and Ayatollah Sayed Hossein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi.
The organisations say that Iran is responsible for the health and safety of any prisoner.

The attorney of the three imprisoned American hikers says that he still has not been able to meet with his clients.
Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Joshua Fattal are since July 31, 2009 in Evin Prison.
During this time they have only been able to contact their families once on the telephone and once in person.
They are in solitary confinement and the health of Sarah Shourd is not good as from lack of proper medical care.

Two two doctors specializing in prevention and treatment of HIV, Kamiar and Arash Alaei are detained in ward 209 of Evinprison.
6 months ago they were on baseless charges of acting against national interests, also known as plotting velvet revolution, sentenced to respectively 3 and 6 years in prison.
The Alaeibrothers have been instrumental in fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS in Iran.
