Iran: dissent


In the prison of Behbehan August 2nd, a man has been hanged.
The man, S. D. was convicted for drugstrafficking.

Familymembers of the imprisoned and in hungerstrike political prisoners gathered in front of Tehran Prosecutor’s office.
They were removed forcefully and a number of plain clothed agents took videos and pictures of the people.

Wednesdaymorning some prisoners in hungerstrike were transferred to the prisonclinic for treatment.
The clinic staffmembers shouted insults at them.
On arrival the staff, including the nurses began to insult them and shout, “You are a bunch of Monafeghs (hypocrites)” and, “You have made a mess in this country, so now you are in prison.”
The names of those prisoners were not released.
Student activist Abdollah Momeni, journalists Bahman Ahmadi Amouie and Keyvan Samimi, civil rights activists Jafar Eghdami and Ebrahim (Nader) Babaie were after treatment returned to isolation, Payman Karimi Azad was taken to a hospital outside the prison.

The family of ayatollah Hossein Kazemi Boroujerdi was denied visiting him in prison on July 24.
When they arrived they heard that Clerical Court prison visits with the detained clerics has been reduced to once a month.
His family has not been allowed to visit him for 4 months.

Human Rights Watch announced in New York the names of the 42 writers who receive the yearly Hellman/Hammett prize.
This price is since 1989 for writers whose commitment to free expression and courage in the face of political persecution.
In Iran womansrightsactivist Parvin Ardalan, living in Sweden since the 2009 election receives the price and also Azin Izadifar a writer since she was 13years old, who has spent years in prison,and fled through Vienna and USA to Canada.
