Iran: numbers

The Statistics and Publications Unit of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI) reports that Iran executed between October 2010 and October 2011 480 prisoners.
The majority of prisoners who received the death penalty were charged with drug related crimes.The Judiciary Branch neither officially announces the majority of death sentences when they are issued nor the time when they are carried out.
Since the beginning of 2011, 478 individuals have been sentenced to death and the death penalties for 422 of these prisoners have been carried out.
Among those executed were at least 3 persons under the age of 18.
The Human Rights House of Iran launched an “Anti-Death Penalty Committee” , to record and prepare statistical reports on execution of death penalties and to follow-up on the condition of death row prisoners.

In Rajai Shahr ‘Gohardasht’prison incarcerated journalist Issa Saharkhiz is in hungerstrike since Thursday.
He has been imprisoned for more than two years, and his physical health has greatly deteriorated since. He suffers from highly irregular blood pressure and severe back pain and a damaged vertebrae in his spinal cord.
Political prisoners are only allowed to be treated in a hospital by the permission of the Public Prosecutor, however it takes the Prosecutor months to issue such approvals.

According to website kalameh.com is Saturday Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr sentenced to 1 year in prison and 90 lashes for her part in "My Tehran for Sale," about the limits imposed on artists in the Islamic republic.
The film was not approved for screening in Iran.
Her lawyer told she will appeal the verdict.

The names of 3 Iranian ministers are on a list with 29 people targeted by new European Union sanctions.
These are the present ministers for intelligence (secret services), justice and culture are joined by a former interior minister as well as regional governors, prosecutors and prison directors.
When they are published in the EU's legal log, the Official Journal Tuesday, the sanctions will take effect.
