Iran: repression, May 5, 2012

Media report that partial results from yesterdays parliamentary elections in Iran say that opponents of president Ahmadinejad gained 20 seats while his supporters only got 8 seats. The independents won another 11 seats.
Sixty five seats were contested in the runoff election.
So far 40 seats have been elected.The votes of 4 cities have to be counted, Tehran, Eslamshahr Rey, Shemiranat.

The pressure on familymembers of people who are living in Camp Ashraf in Iraq is increasing. The Supreme Court confirmed the deathsentence of political prisoner Gholamreza Khosrawi, 47, for financial support to PMOI and moharebeh. He is more then 40 months in solitary confinement in Evinprison.
The deathsentence of professor of university Abdolreza Ghanbari, 45 for his ties with PMOI has been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Ali Moezzi, 63, suffers from cancer and is in solitary confinement in Evin.
Mashallah Haeri, 61 wss arrested during a hospital furlough along with his wife and brought to Ward 209 of Evin. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for visiting his son in Ashraf, Iraq.
Ms. Kobra Banazadeh Amirkhizi lost eyesight in one eye and her other eye is on the verge of blindness due to torture. In 2008 she was sentenced to 5 years in prison because she intended to travel and visit relatives in Ashraf.
Humanrightsorganizations and especially the High Commissioner for Human Rights and rapporteurs to act immediately to stop these criminal sentences.

Kurdish  political prisoners  Ebrahim Issapour en Sirvan Nejavi who were arrestee in July 2011, have been sentenced to death for moharebeh, enmity with god.
The Supreme Court confimed the sentence in appeal.

On a conference of journalists, named New Voices in Tunisia 700 journalists from 88 landen discussed about media freedom helping to transform societies.
Iran was one of the top focuses of the conference.
Since 2009 more then 290 journalists were arrested who were sentenced from 6 months to six years.
