Iran: bars, September 3, 2012



Women’s rights activist, journalist and editor of the website Focus on Iranian Women Jila Baniyagoob, went to Evinprison after being summoned to serve her prisonsentence.
She was sentenced to one year in prison and 30 years ban on journalism activities.

Blogger and human rights activist Hossein Ronaghi Maliki is one of 30 arrested social activists who were arrested after traveling to support Iranians in the earthquake stricken region of Azarbaijan. He contacted his family by phone, informing them that he is is in poor physical condition as a result of extreme bleeding of the kidneys.
Previous it was reported that he was assaulted and severely beaten by interrogators of the intelligence ministry in Ahar and Tabriz.

Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Gharchak Prison in Varamin (near Tehran) have banned any contact between political prisoners Kobra Banazadeh Amiri and Sedigheh Moradi with other prisoners.
It is also reported that they are deprived of any medical treatment or medication for the illnesses they are already suffering from.

Website Herana reports that prisons in Khuzestan province are filled with inmates three fold the capacity . The capacity of Khuzestan Province prisons is between five to six thousand inmates, currently over 15 thousand inmates are being held in Khuzestan Province.
Since 34 years after the Islamic revolution, not one prison has been built in Khuzestan Province.
