Iran: more January 2nd 2013

A number of labor organizations made a joint statement on the recent deaths of children and workers in Iran.
The widespread negligence on the part of authorities and employers caused the spate of tragic occurrences involving workers and children.

A senior commander of the IRGC said that the protests after the presidential elections of 2009 were more dangerous to the country than the 8-year Iran-Iraq war.
He added that the Guards were preparing themselves for “days of scheming and interference by the enemy in the 2013 presidential elections.”
He spoke to Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and Basij militia commanders at a seminar.

WSJ-online reports that domestic politics and the presidential elections of June 2013 between those loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei against those associated with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This could make the difference in how Iran addresses whether to compromise on its nuclear program or maintain a policy of defiance.
The main reformist parties said they would boycott the elections.
