Iran: hybrids

The Supreme Court in Iran held a new appeal hearing into the death in custody four years ago of Iranian-Canadian photographer Zahra Kazemi.
Kazemi died after being arrested. After her arrest she was severely beaten in Evin prison and died.
Iran's former government acknowledged that Kazemi was violently beaten in prison, but the judiciary initially claimed she died of a stroke and went on to say she had been injured in a fall.
Between her arrest and her admission to hospital where she died of a brain haemorrhage, Kazemi was interrogated by rival power centres, judicial prosecutors, the police and then the intelligence ministry.
In November 2005, the Iranian judiciary acquitted an intelligence agent initially accused of the crime and ordered a new investigation.
Family lawyers have been trying to bring to justice a judiciary official they say is the real killer.

Mehrnews reports that Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) is to start making hybrid cars from late July aimed at fuel consumption optimization. A hybrid car is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power or fuel sources.
IKCO’s compressed natural gas company with a 250 thousand tank capacity is to start operation in the province of Qazvin in March 2008. This will meet domestic CNG tank demand.
IKCO has so far purchased 70 thousand fuel tanks from a domestic company.
