Iran: moves

An earthquake of 4.9 on the Richter scale jolted Saturday Hendurabi Island in the Persian Gulf.
There is no report on any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.



In the city of Sari, Mazandaran province, a man, Abdollah Farivar, 49-year-old has been sentenced to death by stoning.
He is convicted for adultery.
His family insists that he did not commit adultery, since her signed a timed marriage contract (sigheh).
Such contracts provide a way around Iran's restrictive laws that prevent pre-marital sexual relations.


According to the National Council of Resistance in Iran (NCRI) are last week 24 prisoners of various prisons in north and north-west Iran transferred to Gohardasht (Rajahi-Shahr) prison.
Gohardasht is a maximum security prison, 40 km west of the capital Tehran.
On January 29, twenty-eight prisoners were also relocated from Gohardasht to Evin prison.
Five of them were hanged the following day.
