Iran: active

Newspaper Kargozaran says that woman's rights activist Khadijeh Moghaddam 56, had been freed Wednesday.
Her bail of 110,000 dollars was paid by an unidentified individual.
April 8 she was arrested on charges of "acting against national security".
Moghaddam is active in the "one million signatures" campaign.
She is a pioneer in environmental protection in Iran, working for better waste management and protesting against deforestation.
Kargozaran also reported that student activist Behrouz Karimi was released after four months in jail on a bail of 330,000 dollars.


Ahmad Reza Radan, police commander for Tehran, in an interview with state-run television, promised more suppressive measures for next year in comparison to those carried out during the last Iranian year.
He said that enforcement of public security and moral ethics in matters concerning improper clothing, hooligans and thugs, drug dealers, thieves as well as all matters related to the people’s soules and minds will continue to be pursued strongly through new Iranian year, 1387.
The police will deal strictly against those who do not respect the law and will also be acting against "satan-worshipping" groups.He did not give further details.


President Ahmadinejad has appointed Hossein Samsami as acting minister for economic affairs.
He replaces outgoing Economy Minister Davoud Danesh Jafari. Saturday he will take over the post officially.
Samsami is secretary of the governments economic committee and lecturer at the economics faculty of Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University.


The Interior Ministry has announced that 162 candidates have launched campaign for the second round of parliamentary elections.
The elections will take place on 25 April.
Only 82 candidates will enter the parliament.
