Iran: people and business

In the prison of the city Tabas, Khorasan province are December 13 two man hanged.
The men, Zahed Salehabadi (35) en Mohammad Amin Barahooi (28), were convicted for drugstrafficking.


The trade in bazars in Iranian cities is closed to protest the recent blockade actions by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The Tehran bazar is is the largest market of its kind in the world. Although its importance has diminished in recent years, it remains an important economic force.
Since the election victory from Hamas in Gaza 2007 has Israel placed the Gaza Strip under a blockade.
The UN Human Rights Council Tuesday declared Israeli policies against the Palestinians and the blockade of the Gaza Strip to be "crime(s) against humanity."
Human rights advocates from around the world have also condemned the international community for keeping silent over the Israeli crimes and have called for an end to atrocities committed against people in the coastal region.


The Tehran Stock Exchange's (TSE) index has fallen to its lowest level in five years.
The index fell to 8,974.
Since October the index has fallen 18 percent. Most of the companies listed on the exchange are producers of steel, copper and chemicals.
The international financial meltdown did not affect Iran Stock Exchange directly, due to the isolation of Iran's financial market.
