Iran: struggle

The conservative Member of Parliament and hardliner, Ruhollah Hoseinian wrote a letter of resignation. In this letter he wrote that he was "“defeated by the establishment of certain people in the governing offices of the regime who are, at a 180-degree angle from the Supreme Leadership.”
He added that "a 12year struggle to defeat reformists has been destroyed by “professional parliamentarians.”
Hoseinian, a judge, is also a political and security aide to Ahmadinejad.
His letter states that he believes “Basij and security forces are being demeaned and oppressed by military courts under various pretences.”
Hoseinian is one of the 36 MPs that recently proposed a bill to reduce the waiting period for death row inmates convicted of “moharebeh” or armed combat, which is the charge against several recent detainees.

Yesterday the armoured car of Mehdi Karroubi was hit by gunfire.
This happened in Qazvin, where Karroubi attended a memorial service for slain opposition protesters.
The website Sahamnews reported that some 500 basij and people from nearby villages surrounded the place and attacked the building and destroyed the windows.
After four hours, anti-riot police finally intervened to get Karroubi out of the building.
As his car was pulled away, shots were fired at it.
Authorities did not react on the events.

At least five protesters will be charged with "moharebe", fighting with god, which carries an automatic death sentence.
Neither the names of the defendants, nor the date of the trial was announced.
A lawyer in Tehran, who defended protesters before, said in a telephone interview with New York Times, that it surprised her with which speed the judiciary announced this.
She wonders how its possible that the charges and defense are completed in just ten days.
At the charges against the seven imprisoned bahai are added new charges.
Since December 27, twelve more bahais were arrested.
