Iran: fierce

Reuters reports that Mehdi Karroubi commented on his website that the current republic is plagued with despotism and elections have become meaningless.
This government has not been formed upon the people's votes, and the result has been social unrest.

The Tehran prosecutor confirmed that six deathsentences were issued to the Ashura Day detainees.During the clashes on Ashura Day were according to official reports seven people died and over 700 people were arrested. The people who were sentenced to death were convicted for "enmity with god".
The Revolutionary Court said that they had only put the members of "anti-Revolutionary groups and organizations" to trial and those who have "expressed regret" regarding their actions have been released.The Revolutionary Court said before that the six Ashuradetainees had been sentenced to imprisonment and fines for the charges of "assembly and colluding against the security," "insulting senior government officials" and "disturbing public order."
Mohammadreza Ali-Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour are executed already on charges of "enmity with god", although their lawyers say they were arrested before the election.z

The International Research & Exchange Board (IREX) announced that Armenian-Iranian Silva Harotonian, who was arrested in June 2008, has been released.
Harotonian who works for Maternal and Child Health Education and Exchange Program (MCHEEP) from Irex was traveling to Tehran when she was arrested.
